iPods as Musical Equipment

An iPod as a Musical Device

An iPod refers to a trivial appliance that is used for playing music, keeping digital acoustics, and storing videotape files. Apple inc manufactures the device and it is made in a way that it can be easily carried. The appliance is capable of uploading any type of music provided that it is updated online. Therefore, the techno know-how can upload their music to other laptops using a specific program of iPods (Casper 48). This essay focuses on how Casper Merville, Theodor Adorno, Walkman, and Cass Sunstein view iPods as musical equipment.

Casper Merville's View

I agree with Casper Merville when he says that iPods present a variety of music to users simply because this is the exact purpose it serves. The device is presented in diverse colors, depending on how its background is set to suit any user. The tool is fascinating because the manufacturer has made it as a unique red and black U2 gleaners' version (Casper 76).

The Uniqueness of iPods and Apple Mac

Moreover, many clients using iPods and Apple Mac are attracted to these devices due to the uniqueness of the services that they offer (Nolan et al. 760). However, one can easily note that there exists a considerable variance between a PC and a Mac. According to Casper, the difference between the two is identified by the type of music and other modifications that the two devices provide to various operators.

Cass Sunstein's Insight

Moreover, I agree with Cass Sunstein on his philosophy concerning the website. He expounds his insights regarding the internet using the term "The Daily We." The reason why I concur with this author is that he correctly says that the internet does not frequently contribute to the expansion of knowledge (Nolan et al. 766). For instance, iPods will simply produce the music which a listener will be willing to play. It does not contribute to any creativity where listeners can come up with their modes of entertainment (Casper 56). Therefore, peoples' knowledge is not broadened in any way because they become dependent on the internet. Furthermore, they often rely on the social media platforms for their news, philosophies, and experience.

Theodor Adorno's Perspective

Similarly, I concur with thoughts of Theodor Adorno, a great thinker from the old Frankfurt institution regarding the positive aspect of this entertainment tool. To begin with, I agree with Adorno when he says that listening to music using iPods guards a person against unnecessary shocks and tonal imbalances, meaning that it is healthy to use the device than other music appliances (Nolan et al. 764). He uses the term "iPod jukebox" to explain the software that is found in the appliance which aids in balancing sound and shocks when the music is being played (Nolan et al. 759). I support his notion because other ordinary tune devices produce music which is often irritating, posing dangers to listeners particularly those who like listening to loud sounds.

Theodor Adorno on iPod-jacking

Still on Theodor Adorno, I do agree with his thoughts regarding the use of iPods by people who are strange to others. He says that when strangers use each other's iPods, they only search for a few songs which they know (Nolan et al. 763). After listening for a short moment, they will be happy and eventually create a good relationship with the appliance's owner who would like to know each other more (Casper 76). Thus, the act of iPod-jacking is a good aspect when it is practiced since it creates a mutual understanding and friendships between the parties involved in the entertainment.

Disagreement with Walkman's View

However, I do not coincide with Walkman on his view about iPod. For example, I do not like how he stated the essentials of using this appliance and forgot its adverse effects. Although he has acknowledged that using other traditional tools in listening to music is an outdated practice, he does not put into consideration many factors (Nolan et al. 762). Firstly, Walkman does not vividly highlight undesirable factors that are associated with using iPods, such as being relatively expensive as compared to other electronic devices which can perform the same function (Nolan et al. 760). Secondly, I do not like how the author fails to consider other things like the backup services required by iPods to function, for instance, they need electricity to operate (Casper 76). Moreover, he did not mention how iPods have made teenagers spend more time listening to music instead of concentrating on other important activities, such as reading or doing other duties which are more helpful compared to listening to music.

Conclusion

Summarily, it is true to state that iPods can contain numerous songs that entertain listeners. Although the young generation has found a medium in which they can access all sorts of songs, they have developed laziness and also killed their creativity in the music industry. They only want to enjoy the art of others and forget showing their expertise in singing. However, despite the negativity associated with it, iPods have been considered the best tools to use when listening to songs because they are less destructive to ears.
