The Masks We Wear in Life
The paper discusses masks that I wear in life which in most cases are used to impress or please others. An individual can wear different masks such as sexuality, being non-sensitive, or gay in their entire life. Often people wear social masks to navigate the social world and optimize their success effectively. However when an individual wears a mask, he or she is primarily fake and a bit deceptive since what a mask show is not a person’s true motivations, feelings, or thoughts. Masks are used to cover what one does not want to reveal but shows to others what is socially safe and acceptable.
Identity Masks and Concealment
An individual may wear identity masks to hide who he or she is especially when they are a member of a relationship, sexual, or gender minority. The masks will prevent them from being asked uncomfortable questions by people who do not share their identity. A gay man who tries to hide his sexuality since he does not want to intimidate women he is dating is wearing an identity mask. The mask can be for survival, conflict avoidance, or safety in some situations, but if the mask is worn too often, it is bound to catch up with the individual.
The Impact of Non-Sensitive Masks
Similarly, a person may wear non-sensitive masks to hide their true feeling. Individuals may find difficulty when they do not see people who want to hear about their sense all the time others may come from backgrounds that do not encourage or support the open expression of emotions. Such individuals not only stop confessing their feelings to others but also stop their ability to recognize their excitements. Notably, it is essential for such feelings to have an outlet since if a person continues to wear the mask, the emotions will manifest in other ways. For example, an individual may experience excessive anger, shame, fear, or sadness. Removing the mask to the wrong people can be a dangerous thing, but it can bring the yearned connection when one takes it off to the right person.
