Human trafficking refers to where a person or a group of people controls the others by forcing them into labor, sexual harassment or organ trafficking (Kempadoo et al., 100). The practice has been on the increase, despite the laws put against owning or forcing other people into activities that they do not like. According to the report given by the International Labor Organization, more than 20.9 million people are enslaved (Hernandez et al., 125). Sadly, the United States is both a receiver of the human trafficking and also a source. One of the primary reasons that lead to the practice is poverty and financial constraints, which is evident in all nations. The human traffickers pretend to help the suffering by promising jobs and useful life in other regions, but the victims end up in pain and worse suffering than while at home. Though the activity involves all genders, women and kids are the most affected. The situation is worse as some parents take part in human trafficking where their children are taken, a way to pay debts or get money. Even though human trafficking is openly practiced in some nations, the paper insists that the practice should be stopped as it leads to several problems for the victims as the paper explains.
One, human trafficking causes sexual exploitation to the victims. This is the act of involving people in sexual acts by force. With human trafficking, sexual abuse has increased, mostly to women and young girls. They are molested, abused and tortured (Macias " Wendy 585). One of the reasons that lead to this is unemployment. After the traffickers transport the people, they do not offer job opportunities to them, as they aim to use them. As a result, the people are made to work in farms and other areas, with little pay. With that, the people do not afford the basic needs, leading to them offering their bodies to earn, political instability is the other reason for increased sexual exploitation. Where the government is not stable, the rights of the other people especially the newcomers are not respected. Social discrimination has also led to people exploitation sexually. Different societies prejudice others, based on color, culture, and gender among other aspects, which makes them think that other people should be discriminated against because they pose specific features. This is mainly experienced in Asia and Africa and a few parts of Europe like Russia and Ukraine. Sexual exploitation is evil and shows disrespect to the human nature. Therefore, human trafficking should be abolished due to the victims being tortured sexually.
Also, human trafficking should be banned as it done against the will of the victims and is based on false hopes (Cho "Young 6). As said earlier, the human traffickers lie to the victims by promising those jobs and other benefits. Due to the issues that the victims are experiencing, for example, poverty, the people easily agree, after which they suffer. The point of lying to people and later involving them in dehumanizing actions is a sign of disrespect for human rights. Every person has the right of expression and movement. However, with human trafficking, the people are not allowed to communicate with their loved ones or leave. Therefore, all the actions taken are not based on the will of the people. While the victims are leaving their homes, they are promised of high pays and freedom. However, the amount of salary they are given is not enough for the work that the people do. Also, they are not involved in making major decisions that affect them. For example, they do not choose work, pay, where to live among others. This is to say that in human trafficking, the human free will is lost and the victims are not allowed to complain or stop working. The aspect of slaving human beings through human smuggling should, therefore, be abolished since it does not offer freedom to the victims.
Thirdly, human trafficking leads to psychological torture for the victims and thus should be banned. Mental abuse is where the people are stressed and depressed, due to the experiences they go through, yet they do not have the way out. In most cases, after the victims reach the destinations, their visas and other documents are hidden from them by the traffickers (Henry et al., 51). Apart from that, most are taken to foreign nations by breaking the immigration laws, meaning that they would not openly claim a return. When the visas are hidden, they are then taken to places of work, opposite of their expectations. Being in a foreign nation, doing what you do not want and having no means to leave, brings psychological torture. Being in search situations develops some issues to human traffic victims. One is that some prefer suicide. This is because; they lack the hope to ever returning to their homes and instead of oppression and harassment, and some of them committing suicide. This leaves their families suffering especially if the person was the breadwinner. In fact, some die and the news are not passed on to their people. The other effect of psychological torture is engagement in crime, for example, the use of drugs. It is believed that when abuses some drugs, for instance, bhang, they forget about the challenges they are encountering. This is the situation with most of the human traffic victims, who start to abuse substances to reduce stress. The substances do not only affect them more but make them bitter towards the oppressors. As a result, hatred is spread which increases conflicts among people. Other than that, death cases are encountered as the oppressors punish some of the victims by killing. Psychological abuse should be avoided, by banning human trafficking, as some of the effects are not reversible. For example, people who become mad due to oppression and other issues in human trafficking do not regain sanity ever again. With that, the practice should be banned in all nations.
Apart from psychological issues, victims of human trafficking suffer physically, which is the other reason as to why the practice should be banned. For instance, the people suffer from broken bones and burns, since they are made to work too much, with no preventive tools. For example, they are made to work in chemical industries without wearing protective clothing that leads to health issues. The people also suffer from traumatic brain injury, mainly caused by the loss of memory. Insomnia is the other health issue evident in victims of human trafficking because they are not given a chance to rest. The oppressors are not concerned with the personal welfare of the victims, as long as their work is well done. Sexually transmitted diseases for example HIV/AIDS are prevalent as well (Richards "Tiffany 70). As said earlier, the victims are abused sexually, which raises the chances of sexually transmitted illnesses spread. Even though these illnesses are sensitive and require immediate medical attention, the people are not attended. Instead, the worse are eliminated from work, and the fresh victims replace them. Malnutrition is also common, especially to the children, where they are neither given the right nor enough foods needed for growth. From the instances, it is clear that human trafficking leads to deadly health issues to the victims, demanding for the stopping of the practice.
On the other hand, the effects are not only to the victims but also to the economic status of the country the slaves work. Even though human trafficking is prevalent in most nations, the practice is illegal. The International Labor Organization claimed that about $31.6 billion is estimated to be earned by the human traffickers each year, where the profit does not benefit the nation in any way as it is illegal to practice. The CIA, on the other hand, reported that around $250,000 is earned, from the sex trade every year (Monsel " Antoine 330). The entire amount goes to the oppressors, where the victims get a small amount of nothing. Instead, they are told that the rest of the money is used in catering for food and house expenses, which is false as they live in adverse conditions. With substantial illicit profit, the human traffickers have the motivation to continue oppressing people, without fear of the law. The economy of the nation is affected in different ways. One is that the national security is threatened, forcing the government to allocate a lot of money for protection, which could be used in other areas. For example, the immigrated people may become terrorists who require vast amounts of money to control. Apart from those cases of unemployment and poverty, increases, as the population growth is higher than the resources available. With no peace, people do not work effectively which leads to economic crisis. As a result, crime rates increase, which leads to people fleeing to other nations for peace. With these conditions, the financial status of the country is altered, leading to huge debts of the government of other countries.
However, several reasons have led to the spread of human trafficking and which hinder its prevention. One is that it is one of the businesses that make a lot of money. For example, where a person or a group of people get women and girls, to be used for sexual satisfaction, the amount of money earned is enormous. Since most people have become capitalists, they want to venture is a business that leads to more profits, where human trafficking is one of them. The other reason is that the human traffickers claim that only the willing people get into the business (Holguin et al., 100). By this, it is said that they do not force the victims in moving away from their nations. Instead, it is the challenges that they face, which make them fill the migration forms, with the hope that their lives would be better. With that, the human traffickers claim that they do not force people into accepting their offers. The other reason is on kids' adoption. Through human trafficking, people get the chance to get kids to adopt, without going through the lengthy legal process. This makes them easily get children that they would have otherwise lacked because the right process takes a long time. However, most of the human traffickers claim that they aim to adopt kids, but they end up forcing them in activities like farming. These and other aspects have led to the increased human trafficking business.
On the other hand, these factors are not enough to accept human trafficking in any country. To start with, the issue of making money is not reliable. This is because; it is inhuman to involve other people in dehumanizing activities, to make money. Also, the money earned does not benefit the nation in any way, indicating that the factor is not strong enough to allow human trafficking. This means that the practice favors a few and the broader population suffers. Also, on the claim that the human traffickers do not force people into leaving their homes is also false. This is because; they offer the chances to the people who are suffering, and thus encouraging them to get involved in the business. If they did not force the people, then they would not be moved into foreign nations without the legal immigration process. Apart from that, after the people are taken to the countries, they are not given a chance to return to their homes and make their own decisions. Therefore, the factor that people are not forced into the business is not a good reason to allow human trafficking. Finally, there is the issue of adopting kids; raised to support the claim that human trafficking is permitted (Weitzer " Ronald 15). The factor is also weak, as most of the kids end up being slaves. Apart from that, there are other better ways of adopting kids. For example, one would follow the legal process which ensures that the security of the kid is assured and records are clear of the whereabouts of the child. This is to say that the factors rose in support of human trafficking are baseless, demanding that the practice should be banned in all nations across the world.
In conclusion, basing the paper on a thesis on reasons as to why human trafficking should be banned, it is clear that the practice affects both the victims and nations. Many of the problems are experienced by the victims, where they are sexually exploited, their free will denied as well as psychologically and physically tortured. The nations involved also suffer economically because a lot of profit is earned illegally and threatens the security of the country and its development. The paper has also considered the factors that have led to the spread of human trafficking but has proven that the aspects are not strong enough to make people suffer. Therefore, it is evident that human trafficking is an immoral act and should be banned in all nations. In doing this, governments should pass strict laws, mostly to keep precise records of people leaving and entering countries. With that, it would be easy tracing those that are illegally taken to nations as slaves. The other significant action is that people ought to be educated on when to agree to move from their countries to others (O’Brien " Erin 215). For example, they should find out the legality of the process, and they know the necessary actions to take in case a problem is encountered. Despite the issues one could be going through, for example, poverty, the government should educate the public that not all the chances given should be taken.
