High renaissance

High Renaissance

High renaissance refers to the period of artistic work that existed between the 1490s and 1520s. Various artists were involved in the transformation of early to high renaissance although Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo are my favorite in the field of art. The art included sculpture, painting and architecture and they were mainly based in Italy and through the mastery of their work high renaissance emerged. The artists came up with a new style that tried to bring out three-dimensionality in their art while at the same time giving their works real and lifelike quality. From the paintings and the sculpture, I think their work was based on the history of Romans and at the same time inclined towards the region.

Michelangelo's Art

Michelangelo produced two important sculptures in his lifetime, David created during the early Renaissance period and Moses in the high renaissance. The two arts caught my attention particularly because they depict to have significant differences and yet they are created by the same person. David shows features of a strong man portrayed by the existence of well elaborate muscles which traces back to the ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, however, proportions in this art are not quite well since the upper body seems to be bigger. We can see that during the high renaissance Michelangelo's art has evolved through the creation of Moses that I feel it is a realistic sculpture with lifelike attributes.

Raphael's Paintings

Raphael has been able to show us that even though there is a cluster of artists in painting, everything still can be balanced magnificently. Raphael is matching his paintings by using symmetry and the aspect of perspective in a skillful way. Raphael's portrait of Maddalena Doni and the Holy Family remind me of Mona Lisa by Leonardo who was his mentor. The school of Athens and Christ child as Raphael's famous works and regarded as the best example of high renaissance. I find the arts very remarkable as he created a balance between stability, order, and the movement of figures.

Religious Influence

I believe since the artistic work of the three leading artists of the high renaissance was based around the pope's court, their arts were religious oriented. The viewer's looking at these portraits and sculptures could be able to get the in-depth view of the religious believes.
