The nomination was done to replace Anthony Kennedy who had retired from this position. Before nomination, Brett served as a judge in the court of appeal in America.

Hearings and Accusations

The committee of the Senate began the hearings targeting Brett confirmation on 4th

of September. When the process of confirmation had come to an end, Kavanaugh faced accusations that he had assaulted a female by the name Christine thirty-six years ago. This assault was conducted during their high school years. Similarly, there were other women named Julie and Deborah who were also said to have been sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh. However, the Supreme Court nominee denied those allegations.

Senate Confirmation and Reactions

Committee members about the sex crimes questioned both Ford and Kavanaugh. Despite the charges against him, Kavanaugh was voted by Senate, and that confirmed his nomination as a Supreme Court associate judge in the United States.

Supporters and Opponents of the Nomination

Kavanaugh was announced to be the associate judge nominee on 9th of July who was selected from the potential nominees who were highly qualified in the administration of Trump. To confirm his nomination, the president echoed that the nominee qualified for the position because he had credentials which were impeccable. Consequently, his qualifications were also unsurpassed and that he had proven to be well vomited to equality in administering justice. The president also emphasized that political views did not matter. According to him, what mattered was meeting the requirement of the constitution.

Through this nomination, there were several responses and reactions from the Americans. To begin with, those that supported included the Republicans (Kavanaugh, 2133). They expressed their great support for this nomination. Led by the majority leader of the Senate, he referred to Kavanaugh as being highly regarded by the legal community. Similarly, Akhil who is an Originalism and who is was a teacher to Kavanaugh, referred to this nomination as the classiest move made by President Donald Trump.

On the other hand, the opposition member expressed their dissatisfaction with this kind of nomination. What the group is opposing was led by Senate Democrats who stated their great intent of opposing Kavanaugh's confirmation. Some of the media houses such as Vox reported of the great disappointment by the social conservatives following this nomination. The association of American family also gave a strong reaction to the nomination through calling for the members to protest against Kavanaugh's nomination (Kavanaugh, 1907). Following this nomination, several progressive groups also joined together and launched a campaign which targeted at opposing this nomination. These groups were mainly the conservatives and the moderate Democrats.

American-Bar Association's Response

Among the reactions were also those from the American-bar association (ABA). This movement supported the nomination of Kavanaugh fully. However, after the accusation about the sexual impropriety, the ABA presided directed that the nomination should remain unnoted until the allegation was properly investigated and the truth on this issue determined. The chairperson of ABA also affirmed the committee had come up with an evaluation that regarded temperament. Therefore, the re-vote and reassessment could only be done after Senate vote had taken place.

Historical Context and Political Stand

Considering this nomination, much can be depicted from the historical events and political stand of United States. To begin with, since serving of his first term, the founder president of America George Washington experienced several disruptions that came up as a result of party conflicts. The conflicts were between the republicans and federalists (Goldman, 282). This division of citizens based on political stands was evident since the early years of independence of America. It has also been depicted in Brett Kavanaugh nomination where the Republicans supported the nomination. However, the Democrats who are the opposition in Trump's government oppose the nomination.

American Culture and Media Influence

The culture of Americans has also been found to include both liberal and conservative elements. The conservatives are on the government's side while the liberals are on the side of the opposition. In this case, the liberals do not support Kavanaugh nomination while the conservatives who back up the government of the day, support the nomination (Epstein, 196-198). Despite the ideological principles, the American culture has been observed to have several expressions as a result of demographic and geographic diversity.

Similarly, the mass media has constantly played a great role since the historical past of America. The media indirectly supports or opposes a certain political move. Through the media works, citizens could be rallied to support or oppose a given move taken by the government. For this case, a media group by the name Vox has played a role in expressing dissatisfaction in this nomination. The media has directly reported the disappointment of certain groups of people such as social conservatives by trumps appointment. Although it does not oppose the nomination move directly, it indirectly opposes the nomination by siding with the opposing group. This is a cultural tread that media houses have observed when dealing with national matters.
