Crime in the 21st Century

Crime and its Causes

Crime is a violation of the stipulated law which is depicted by deviation from the norms and social customs. According to the functional theory of sociology, most crimes occur due to the fall of the societal organizations. Societies with a high prevalence rate of poverty, illiteracy and population turnover have a high likelihood for crimes in comparison to the other societies (Atlas, 2013). Additionally, social interactions yield high crime rate as criminal behavior can be learnt through close friends.

The Increase in Crime Rate

The crime rate has increased tremendously in the 21st century. The general phenomenon and scope of the crimes have made it be a global concern due to the nature in which crime is being conducted. It is demonstrated that the approach and technicalities involved in crime are changing. Atlas (2013), outlines that in the 21st century, crimes are becoming more organized and complex. With the advancement of technology, cybercrimes have increased, and this entails the process of hacking in the corporate servers to get the crucial information. Furthermore, crimes such as trafficking of goods has increased with some of the countries having banned a certain product. Related crimes include human trafficking and drug abuse. Additionally, the vehicle crime has also increased and this can be attributed to the advancement of technology enabling the criminals to break through the systems of tracking. Lastly, terrorism is on the rise in the 21st century, and this is depicted with numerous terrorist groups being formed all over the world.

Curbing International Terrorism

The most effective method to curb the increase in international terrorism is through the use of diplomacy and minimization of combat war. The method is effective in the minimization of war as it tries to get real reasons for the initiation of war for the terrorists. It is well known that the intention of the terrorists is to cause fear, and this is demonstrated when constant war is initiated. Therefore, through diplomacy, the issues are handled and solutions are established.
