Time has led to the discovery of technology, medicine, and knowledge, for example, many of which add value to the quality of life. However, the increase in knowledge and huge technological achievements have had a negative impact on life too. Modern day weapons have drawn a line between animals and humans making the latter much fiercer than the former. To add insult to injury, respect for life has dwindled, and selfishness has motivated many to bring an end to innocent lives. Humans have lost the capability to distinguish between right and wrong, and this has brought about many debates. Abortion has been one hotly debated subject, and many individuals do not shy away from defending this vice. However, I am brave enough to take a stand against it, and my reasons are clearly outlined in this paper.
I believe strongly in the dignity of life and that every human life has the right to be protected. Life starts at conception, and any termination whatsoever is equivalent to murder (Prude, 2018). Some may argue that the bunch of cells making up the zygote is incapable of feeling pain, but no one ever stood up to claim that a zygote or a fetus is a nonliving thing. Even if it were true that the zygote is not in a position to feel pain, then terminating it would just amount to a painless death.
Unlike many scholars out there, I will not turn to science in a bid to prove that the fetus is a living being. Rather, I will turn to one of the oldest writings which happens to be the Christians holy book alias the bible. Many people are quite familiar with the Ten Commandments that are widely known as the laws of Moses, but a deeper analysis of these laws reveals how God viewed the life of unborn babies. Murder was forbidden among the Israelites. The penalty for murder was usually death! Remarkably, any person who would lead to the death of an unborn baby whether willingly or unwillingly would also suffer the same fate. According to the book of Exodus, if any man caused injury to a pregnant woman leading to a premature birth with no fatality, such a man would be required to pay the damages imposed on him by the woman’s husband through the judges. However, if the premature baby died in the process, such a man would suffer a death penalty (Exodus 21:22-24). Evidently, God placed a high value on the life of an unborn baby. In many cases, he would even select future Kings long before their actual birth. Indeed, modern science or even technology is not necessary to prove the fact that life starts at conception.
Every individual who happens to be alive today cherishes the day that he or she was born. However, very few people pose and think about the odds of being alive. The fact of the matter is that for you to be alive today, with the exact same DNA composition that you possess, conception had to happen at the exact same time that it did! According to Mel Robbins, the odds of that happening is 1 in 400 trillion (Robbins, 2018). Simply put, mathematicians have proved that the probability of being born is indeed zero. This means that life is a priceless gift. If anyone terminates it at whatever stage, this would be equivalent to snatching a rare gift from its owner. In other words, abortion amounts to an armed robbery on an unarmed individual. For a certainty, Life is both a miracle and a gift that is entrusted to any individual immediately after conception. These facts make abortion a crime weightier than a combination of cold blood murder and armed robbery.
