Intense debates have arisen in the struggle for understanding climate change. The author of this article tries to address his thinking about climatic variations. He refuses to concur with the facts that surround climate changes claiming they are an apparent myth. The history of a scientist like Jean Baptiste who discovered the greenhouse gases explains how the gases trap heat reflected from the earth surface after the absorption of energy from the sun. John Tyndall demonstrated how ice ages brought about a decrease in atmospheric carbon dioxide. Later discoveries explained how doubled carbon dioxide content would slowly bring a rise in global temperatures. Moreover, human contribution to global warming has been taken seriously because of the severe climatic changes that have occurred. Evidence has been collected to test global temperatures and increased greenhouses gas emissions. Tremendous efforts have been undertaken to understand and explain climate change.
Burnett does not accept any of the scientific facts. From the beginning of the article; the writer concludes that fear of believing in corrupt scientists and governments have brainwashed and threatened humans (Burnett, 2014). Burnett calls the climatic changes nonsense (Burnett, 2014).He further states that he has not experienced any weather changes outside the norm. At the end of the article, he affirms that he does not agree with any of the scientific facts. Dean says that he would instead move to another planet which is not subject to experimental control (Burnett, 2014). He firmly believes that nobody at all should believe in the climatic change crap.
Burnett explains his arguments why he does not believe in the climatic changes. He tells why scientists have brainwashed humanity by revealing that the global warming does not stand for scrutiny. Firstly, he explains that scientists insist that the warming of the atmosphere brings about rising sea levels causing changes in the sea levels (Burnett, 2014). He contends that if the case were happening since many decades ago when scientists predicted this, then something would have changed. He continues to explain why the rise in sea levels is not caused by the melting glacial ice and calls them massive blocks of ice floating on the ocean (Burnett, 2014). He defends this point with the argument of leaving an ice cube in a drink lasts more than five minutes, yet scientific facts claim that the ice caps have lasted for more than a million years. He believes it is not convincing.
Burnett continues to argue it was unjust that domestic breeding of cows stopped because of supposedly critical environmental damages caused by deforestation and methane (Burnett, 2014). He claims that this was brought about by synthetic meat companies who wanted to ensure they maintained global dominance (Burnett, 2014). He also fails to agree with the current agricultural collapse that is being caused by climate change; he argues that the food crisis is a fixed conspiracy by the global bakery corporation charging 150 pounds for loaf bread (Burnett, 2014).
Critique
In my point of view, Burnett claims about climate change are fallacy lies. Dean is calling slaughtering and stopping the domestic breeding of cows a conspiracy to ensure the global dominance of synthetic meat companies and the rising cost of loaves due to the dominance of bakery companies; it is false and unrealistic. It is inarguable that the destruction of forests to provide farmers with the farming land has brought about devastating environmental effects. It has affected the world’s foods supply and has significantly reduced snowfalls and rainfalls leading to water shortages.
The melting of glaciers is a gradual process the author appears to expect a dramatic effect. Scientists have strong evidence explaining how melting glaciers are causing rising sea levels. Besides, many studies have shown evidence that glaciers have drastically shrunk due to increasing temperatures. I think the author should have substantial arguments explaining why he believes that climatic change is crap. It is essential that he gathers convincing evidence why glaciers are mere blocks of ice floating on oceans without melting and intensively research about deforestation and its effects so that his arguments work.
