The Importance of Loyalty in Relationships

Loyalty is the act of showing or giving form and constant and reassured support and allegiance to someone or something at a particular time, reassuring them of your support in all there decision and opinions. Loyalty, being an act of commitment and dedication, is ubiquitous to everyone, and also paramount in relationships such as friendships. Loyalty is not only practiced between friends but also in other kinds of relationships, e.g., between teammates, and hence considered a prized quality in any relationship. Loyalty takes time to develop and in a relationship it allows the parties involved have respect and trust for each other. Loyalty is a behavior that is initiated from within an individual and is guided by a person’s moral principles and traits. For example, a trait that all loyal people have is trust. Trust is the foundation of loyalty as it allows one have a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of the other person.

Body

Loyalty is a virtue fundamental to many people especially those in relationships because of allows them to have a successful, stable and long-lasting relationship. For instance, when loyalty is present in a relationship where two people are dating, it shows that the two parties are ready to commit and make personal sacrifices to strengthen the relationship. Loyalty and commitment allow people to stand by each other even in the toughest of times as it is understood that a relationship without loyalty will inevitably find itself in chaos. Apart from the trust, other traits define a loyal person, include honesty, trust, and openness. When a person is honest and truthful in a relationship, it shows that they are considerate of the other person in their actions, words, and opinions.

Loyalty also makes a person more responsible, reliable and accountable for their actions and although it is a virtue that is not easy to find especially in the present times it has taught me to be more responsible and committed in a relationship. Personally, I think one is only in control of their loyalty, and it is impossible for one to take power over someone else’s loyalty, no matter how good you are to that person as it is a character developed from within a person. It is not obvious for people to be loyal to each other as it is a choice that requires one to change their attitude, actions, and words to those that reflect loyalty. I recently met a person who I thought was amazing, as they had the biggest heart, loyal and committed to their relationship than anyone I had ever known before. Involving myself with such a loyal and committed person made me understand the importance of loyalty in any relationship bond between the people in a relationship making one feel secure and in control. I also realized that loyalty in a relationship brings trust and feelings of devoted attachment and affection making one feel good, happy and free. Unlike before, I now get that for one person to be loyal to another, they have to trust them with their information, opinions, and beliefs.

Different people define loyalty differently with many of them terming it as the act of being faithful to one's engagements by obligations. Although the definition is true to some degree, I think it does not precisely cover the true meaning of loyalty, because I believe that loyalty and commitment is not an obligation that is imposed to a person by outside influences but is an internal moral character that one develops freely regardless of what is happening around them. Loyalty is also important in other social setups such as businesses. For example, if you own a business, it is natural to want your employees to be loyal to each other and the company for the proper functioning of the organization. Loyalty in a workplace is what gives many business advantages over their competitors because having loyal employee’s leads to having loyal customers hence business success. Also, every investor aim is to invest in a company that with guarantee them huge returns and as such will only look into investing in companies they trust and believe will be loyal to them as the primary shareholders. For example, for a financial institution such as banks, loyalty is a crucial component because, their success depends on loyalty from their customers and shareholders, because being a financial institution, it needs to assure the people involved that their money is safe and used for all the right reasons.

Conclusion

In sum, it is clear that loyalty is an important aspect and the foundation of any relationship and although people may not practice it with the same kind of seriousness, it plays a vital role in strengthening ties. Personally, loyalty has helped me understand the importance of creating and maintaining relationships, and unlike before I can now use it as the foundation of my relationships. In a business setup, loyalty between workers in a company is paramount as it does not only create a healthy relationship between employees but also allow them to work together hence being more productive and successful.
