The Impact of History on the Future of the World

The End of History by Francis Fukuyama

The End of History by Francis Fukuyama makes compelling arguments discussing why the world is as it is today. He makes creates a direct relationship between the events that changed world history and how they negatively affect different regions in the world (Fukuyama, 1989).

Why Europe is peaceful today by John Mearsheimer

On the other hand, the article Why Europe is peaceful today, by John Mearsheimer, describes the history and how the history of the world managed to positively affect people in different areas. Both Francis Fukuyama and John Mearsheimer made efforts to explain the effect of history on the future. One point of disagreement between the authors is the fact that the chain of events some decades before 1980 were positively affecting the future of regions in the world. Francis took a negative stance mentioning that peace, as it was being described around the world by media, was not yet acquired even after the cold war. He says that the falling of the Berlin wall was not as spectacular as many people would see it at the time. On the other hand, John relates to the post-cold war era as a developmental period in which regions were growing politically and economically. John adds that even after wars, the world is in a better position now than it was before. Peace playing an important role in development, John says that the post-cold war era had great influence in the nature of relations being Germany and The United States. Nonetheless, certain differences have come up in Europe due to security competition. John supports this by explaining the role of the governments in Europe in maintain peace in the region.

Overall Comparison

However, both authors make compelling opinions to the reasons as to why their articles specific line of thoughts, it is clear the John Mearsheimer has more convincing points. This is attributed to that fact that much of the world at the moment has been positively affected by the huddles and wars that governments faced in previous times. With a few negative outcomes in the changes in governments in the United State and the USSR after the cold war, much development has been seen after all the issues were resolved (Mearsheimer, 2010). For instance, John recognizes the fact the United States being involved in NATO activities has greatly affected world peace. John adds that countries have been at a better place in maintaining close relations and in the end promote peace and interactions in the regions around Europe and America.
