The Impact of Fracking on the Environment

Global climate change is a minor concern around the globe and has an adverse impact on anything and everyone who lives on earth.  Professionals and scientists would unanimously agree that human beings are the major contributor to global warming because of the destruction of the environment by consumption of the fossil fuel consumption and other energy consumption methods such as heating up a house or keeping the lights (Ben Jaballah & Ben Ammar, 2015).  Climate change has an adverse impact on the earth surface because it can lead to famine.  Wildlife is scrambling to keep pace, cloud forests are dying, sea levels are rising, and the glaciers are melting.  According to scientist’s human being are the cause of global warming because they release the heat trapped gases as the power their modern lives.  Global warming is causing a set long-term change in weather and climate patterns that are distinct each corner of the world.  The rapid increase in the greenhouse gases is already affecting the human population at a much faster rate quick interventions are needed.  A more unpredictable or new changes poses a greater challenge to all life on the earth surface.  The earth remaining ice sheets in the Antarctica and Greenland are starting to melt a fact that can attribute to the greenhouse gases.  The extra water that is generated causes a rise in the sea levels.  In addition to the rise in the sea levels, the temperature on the earth surface has become quite unpredictable and extreme (Darrah, 2018). The human activities have led to the longer and drier drought, major storms and the changes in the ranges in which animals and plants can live.  Hydraulic fracking is one of the methods that has been utilized to reduce the greenhouse gases.  It is widely understood that despite the fact that this method is hidden from the public it is being adopted by various energy companies.  It is with this regard that the pro-frackers fear the unknown and claim that this method is destructive to the natural resources.

Opposing Claim

In particular circumstance, it would be correct to state that fracking has a direct impact on the immediate community.  It can be argued that the fracking liquids that is utilized during flow back and injection can leak through the pipes if they were improperly installed by the respective companies and especially if the firms violated the government regulations during installation.  The fracking system should be safe meaning they have to be enclosed with thick concrete to prevent any leakages that can intern have an adverse impact on the environment.  The fracking process is energy efficient because it doesn’t require a lot of water to mix the facing fluids (Maslin, 2005).  No study has proved that drinking fracking contaminates water. In addition, the chemical only accounts for about 1 percent of the total fluid implying that the mixture is quite dilute therefore posing an insignificant threat to human beings.

My Opinion

To prepare for the unavoidable and significant effect of the carbon emission such as the increased intensity of life-threatening weather patterns, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and increased temperature.  All stakeholders around should unite to save the earth from the severe effect effects of global warming.  Human beings should ensure that restore and protect forests around the world because they protect the earth by absorbing the excess carbon dioxide.  It is important to ensure that the global climate change agreement reduces degradation and destruction of wildlife.  The government plays a pivotal role in handling the climate crisis (De Wrachien, 2017).  Various policies ought to be advanced to curb deforestation, prepare for the effect of climate change, support the clean energy technology, and reduce the carbon pollution.  The climate policies should be tailor-made to help the developing nations to transition to clean energy sources such as solar and winds, to protect wildlife and combat forest destruction, to provide financial aid to developing nations so that citizens adapt to the realities of the changing climate and to substantially carbon emotions to prevent adverse consequences on the climate change.  If no action is taken against global warming, the earth will be an inhabitable place to live in a couple of years to come.  At the present, the best alternative is the fracking process. The major reason for the introduction of the fracking process is not to harm persons that reside near the injection site, but is to improve the quality of life so that a future for our next generations is safeguarded and guaranteed (Geological Survey (U.S.), 2015).  The natural gas located in the shale rock can be harvested by the use of the fracking method.  The gas can be substitute coal which can indeed reduce the level of pollution that is emitted to the atmosphere reducing climate change.  For this reason, the fracking method is a critical method that when accepted by many organizations it can improve the quality of life.

Conclusion

Fracking is not only beneficial to the world because of its role in reducing global warming but it is also important in ensuring the economic growth is attained.  Fracking can be credited with helping the economy to emerge from recession and also to reinvigorate the chemical, manufacturing, and other sectors.  The revolution of fracking has caused the price of the natural gas to drop by 47 percent when compared to the price before fracking (Darrah, 2018).  The fracking sector can also lead to an increase in the job opportunities for the residents.  The liquidities gas can be sold at the oil stations and they are energy friendly because it burns cleaner than gasoline and oil.  The government must take initiative to protect the individuals located near the fracking zones from the dangers that can result from the leakages.  In addition, the government must come up with stricter safety regulations that direct the respective companies to seal the pipes near aquifers.  The human-induced climate change has had a significant impact on the changing weather patterns across the globe from heavier rain to hotter and longer heat waves, to a broader perspective all the weather patterns have a closer link to global warming.  Climate change has changed the natural climate and shifted the odds, making particular extreme weather more intense and frequent.  The impact of climate change will continue being felt unless the human beings take a quick measure such as fracking.  The extreme weather is on the rise and this is an indicator that it will continue rising in both unpredictable and predictable ways.  Everyone on earth should take an initiative to ensure that the environment is safe for the future generation.
