The Designers and Ideographs
The designers introduce various models with specific intentions. The ideograph serves to symbolize an idea. Therefore, it complements the pictograph in relaying a message to the audience. An example of an ideograph is the red color which symbolizes a ban. Therefore, when incorporating it with a pictogram (a circle with a cigarette), it shows the audience that the area prohibits smoking.
The Glass Menagerie and the Ideograph
I would choose a triangle within a circle as my ideograph for the Glass Menagerie. The triangle resembles the three main characters. Even though Tom would like to part with his mother, he has to remain with the family ("The Glass Managerie"). Therefore, the three corners of the triangle have to join for the shape to exist. On the other hand, the circle shows the continuity of the family. It also signifies the guilt that Tom felt after leaving home. The past kept following him; this shows the unending nature of someone's relationship with his experience. The uniformity of the circle will be evident in the cast where they will have to wear costumes of the same quality. The issue of the triangle will be evident where each character has to stay at strategic places during the drama. I have to choose a cast with the main characters having an almost similar appearance to bring the notion of family.
The Role of Directors and Rehearsal
The roles of directors require various skills and experience. To my mind, the rehearsal role is the most significant because of the utmost coordination required at this stage. The director has to ensure that the cast upholds their uniqueness. I enjoy assessing the skills, styles, and talents of people to assist in producing a comprehensive art (Hurrey para 4). I also like paying attention to the finest details which form the core duty during rehearsal. The reason being the director has to note the performance and strength of each of the cast during the rehearsal.
