My most prized digital possessions include my cell phone, laptop, and iPod. These devices are important to me because I use them on a daily basis and without them, it would be difficult for me to cope with my daily routine. I use my cell phone to communicate with friends and family whenever we are far from each other. In this way we, are able to share information and keep in touch regardless of the distance between us. The laptop is an important gadget that allows me to access the internet regularly. Accessing the internet enables me to carry out research for my school work, complete assignments and participate in group projects. Similarly, the internet allows me to access social networking platforms such as Instagram and Facebook thereby connecting with friends. I use my iPod to store and listen to music during my free time. Music helps me to relax after a long day at school or work.
The development of technology and its advancement has been an important part of global connectivity. The influence of technology on communication and transport has played the biggest role in ensuring this connectivity. Technological advancements such as the telephone, cell phones, and the internet have allowed people from different parts of the world to communicate through phone calls, video calls and emails among others. Similarly, access to television sets and the internet allow for rapid information sharing across the globe. Technological advancements are important to the society because they facilitate aspects such as effective communication, efficient transport, and access to information, education, and research as it is evident from the video, The digital Nation (PBS). These are important in promoting the social, cultural and economic factors of the society. For instance, through communication technology such as television sets, it is now easy to organize social events and invite a large number of people to such events. Elaborate transport systems such as airplanes and trains ensure that people can easily attend these social events. In this way, the social and cultural aspects of society are promoted.
The digital age creates a culture by connecting large numbers of people with similar interests, beliefs, and values. Through media such as the internet, these people are able to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences thereby creating a new system of norms, values, and practices that guide their daily activities. Similarly, the digital age has created a new subculture that is composed of individuals, who value and rapidly embrace change, appreciate social consciousness through the use of social media, and have a personal identity that is based on some form of social-personal identity.
The digital age is not likely to go away but will instead advance and evolve to include new technology. This advancement will be because of the huge impact that it has had on the society as well as the massive appreciation that it has received. The digital age will, therefore, persist because of the new research and investment that has been channeled towards its improvement and adoption.
