Victor begins by narrating his childhood memories, curious about science and its wonders. He is a fifteen-year old boy who lives with his parents and two brothers, William and Ernest, and an adopted sister, Elizabeth(who he later marries), in Geneva, Switzerland. At seventeen years, his interests in science grow deeper each day as he gets extremely impressed with electricity and other sciences.
Victor’s parents resolve that he joins the University of Ingolstadt, to get acquainted with other cultures, according to his father. He is scheduled for an early date, until his mother, Caroline, succumbs to her death from scarlet fever. A grieved Victor therefore commits to studying natural philosophy, to research on ways to bring the dead to life and give life to inanimate things.
He majors on the topics of natural philosophy, researching about the human body and two years later, creates his first being. However, his creation becomes a dreadful being that torments his life later in the narrative. He loses his brother, William after The Creature kills him, and later his wife, Elizabeth.
The Creature, in pursuit of affection as his human neighbours, forces Victor to create him his likely companion. When Victor refuses to give in to the demand, in the fear that it could cause chaos in the future, it kills Victor’s wife. This subsequently leads to his father’s death.
Conclusion
Devastated and exhausted from pursuit, Victor finally collapses and dies a few days later under Captain Watson’s watch. The Creature mourns over his death, remorseful over his crimes. He realises even after all the troubles he took him through, he has no peace. He vows to kill himself and never to be remembered to have been in existence.
The Creature’s aspect
The Creature lives in the wilderness in the first days of his life, when he realises that the human kind is afraid of his hideous form. He comes to learn that everywhere he goes; he is a threat, according to the humans. When he finally gets to look at himself in a pool, he is equally shocked by his hideous image and decides to hide away from the humans.
The Creature finds a hide-out, where he hides away from the snow and freezing cold. While in his hideout, he watches the humans and develops an interest to have a companion, so as to experience the affection as felt by the humans. He murders William, Victor’s brother when he gets angry about human’s attitude towards him, and frames Justin, his nanny.
He later approaches Victor to make him a creature that is alike to him, a request which he declines to after days of watching him. He gets agitated and threatens to kill Elizabeth on their wedding night. After her death, he disappears and a constant pursuit between him and Victor ensues, always tormenting his creator.
He promises to kill all his loved ones until he completely ruins his life, which he does. After Elizabeth and Victor’s father’s death, he disappears into the ocean, where Victor comes after him but collapses from the hypothermia in the freezing cold.
In conclusion, Victor later mourns over the death of its creator, feeling devastated and guilty of all his evils on him and his loved ones, understands that he finds no peace from the torments. He therefore promises to vanish into the darkness, vows to kill himself never to be seen again.
