The Review process
The Journal of abnormal psychology is peer reviewed by an editorial board composed of scholars from various universities. The manuscripts submitted undergo scrutiny on three levels from associate editors, the main editor from the University of Minnesota and the Editorial reviewer’s board. The approved articles have to go through a process of abstracting and indexing and manuscripts submitted have to conform to strict submission guidelines. The length of time for the review is approximately one year (Lundstrom " Baker, 2009).
The impact factor
The impact factor measures frequency of citations and references from an article in a given year. The Journal of abnormal psychology recorded a 5 year impact factor of 5.722 and 4.133 in 2017 (Garfield, 2006).A high impact factor indicates that the journal has achieved a good influence on the academia. Notably, this journal has achieved a fairly average impact.
Acceptability
The research article published in the journal are acceptable for use in an academic literature review because the Journal of Abnormal psychology publishes research articles based on theory and hypothesis tests based on correlation between determinants of abnormal behaviours in psychopathology. In addition, the editors only allow empirical papers or theoretical papers based on scholarly information (Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 2018).
