Racism and segregation

Racial Segregation: A Divisive Issue in Schools and Workplaces

Racial segregation in the social sense are two of today's most divisive topics. School and the workplace are among the worst-affected social environments. Although the phenomenon is not as prevalent as it once was, it remains a point of concern because of the many divisive issues surrounding segregation in our schools today. This issue has frequently been compounded by common misunderstandings about the effect of race on our relationships and abilities.

Perpetuating Misconceptions and Discrimination

However, watching part two of The Story, We Tell allows viewers to better understand the definition of race and how misconceptions continue to perpetuate racial discrimination in schools. According to the movie, there is a common phrase that we are all born equal. However, the society has preset stereotypes that dictate how people judge and treat others. For instance, this series depicts the slavery period in which the white supremacists believed that the black people were a minor race in all aspects of life. It is important to note that despite most of the elements of slavery ending, some of the stereotypes and fallacies were passed down to generations. In my opinion, despite the fact that racial segregation is banned in the U.S, a few people still stick to the stereotypes that the blacks have lesser abilities. For instance, some white students believe that black students have lesser mental capacities. This may be drawn from the small number of successful black professionals compared to their white peers.

The Origins of Misconceptions

It is important to note that, according to The Story We Tell, most of these flawed sentiments of the inferiority of the black race originated during the slave trade and colonization of the third world. The misconceptions have evolved over time, and the lack of enlightenment may contribute to the continued prevalence of the problem.
