Dettwyler refused to join the villagers for food since she pities their diet which results to children being malnourished though the people seem to be okay with their appearance. She tries to imply that the situation can be avoided through healthy diets which will serve a great deal to the wellbeing of the children. With proper and sufficient diets, she expects them to fight off the diseases which arise from poor diets (Dettwyler, 144).
Why overpopulation defines third world poverty
The US is always expected to asscoiate third world poverty to overpopulation due to the fact that they do not embrace diversity like the US does. According to Dettwyler (76) some nations like Mali still uphold their embrace their cultures which to some extent deprive some groups in the society of their rights.

Morning hours were never good for interviews since Malian women were always occupied with work in compounds yet interviews required a lot of commitment. Their main roles included going to the market and getting started on the preparation of the midday meal (Dettwyler, 49). Moreover, they did heavy manual work like chopping firewood, hauling water and preparing breakfast (Dettwyler, 49)

Mothers breast feed their young children with milk that has antibodies and other nutrients which help develop their immune system. Moreover, their diet does not consist of real food which largely contributes to contamination.

The author looked for adult molar eruption due to the high rate of dental infections associated to dental hygiene. The aim was to eventually improve the lives of the Malians.
