Some developing counties in the world have a higher percentage of poverty levels. The countries are characterized by wealth disparity, discriminated systems of education as well as ethnic and gender inequality. The current statistics reveals that there is a direct correlation between class, poverty and discrimination, race, ethnicity, gender, age and education.
Ethnicity and discrimination are among the key causes of poverty in the society. While the United Nation Body tries to elevate poverty, there is still inequality in most of the contemporary societies. In particular, some societies in the western world still exercise racial discrimination, leading to unequal share in natural resources (Zick et al, 20080. In his film The Hidden Reason for Poverty the World Needs to Address Now, Gary Haugen illustrates the causes of poverty, social disparities and discrimination in most societies. Gary demonstrates that due to class difference, the poor live in a society dominated by violence (Haugen, 2015). He states that the rich use their wealth to protect themselves from violence. On the other hand, the law enforcement is not available to poor people.
Gender and education is directly related to social class and poverty. Societies that have good education systems tend to close poverty and social class gap. Since the education system teaches individuals skills to work, it therefore offers a chance for success (Haralambos et al, 2010). However, due to gender inequalities in most societies, women experience violence hindering them from success. Gary gives an example of Griselda from Guatemala, a girl whose family believed in education as a tool to end poverty. However, her dream is shuttered by male chauvinist who imposes her to sexual abuses. Also, he illustrates how Brutus, throws out Venus and her children from her home after the demise of her husband.
The society is always facing inequalities in ethnicity, gender and education. Individuals in the lower social class are attracted to systems of violence. However, education and safe security can be good strategies to mitigate poverty, special class inequality and discrimination.
