Paper Entry for Personal Reflection
An individual's or a group's attitude or mental traits are referred to as psychology. A psychological adjustment is a mechanism by which people balance their contradictory needs or requirements against the environment. In the discussion that follows, I'll explore how well I'm adapting to my new life, juggling goals, forming an identity, and dealing with stress.
Adaptation
I still strive for self-satisfaction to be in tune with myself and the life I have. This is done by ensuring that the quality of my life is measured by internal criteria defined after objectively reviewing issues. As a result, I can set concrete and achievable goals, which play an essential role in development and maintenance of my psychological well-being. In other words, by realizing that I am making progress on my goals, I emotionally start attaining happiness and become more satisfied with my life.
Balancing Priorities
Balancing is critical to spiritual, emotional and physical health (Tarquinio 1). It has always been challenging to find an effective way to balance between personal priorities and responsibilities including family, work, and school. Nonetheless, I try to maintain a balance by defining values and asking myself fundamental questions about the reasons for choosing my profession and the degree am pursuing. I also ensure that I do control my workload so that it does not interfere with my social and personal life completely.
Self-Concept
Self-concept is a collection of beliefs that include sexual and gender identity, as well as self-esteem (Young and Bagley 43). The judgment made about oneself refers to self-esteem, which is influenced strongly by other influential people’s opinion. To develop identity and self-esteem, I focus on issues of control and competence.
Stress
Stress is a sense of being under emotional or mental pressure, which one is unable to cope (Robinson et al.) Personally, I use the following four strategies: understanding how I become stressed, finding healthy ways to manage it, taking care of myself, and reaching for support. It is important to understand the type of situations that make one feel different from normal. Whenever I do feel the pressure that is too much to cope with, I do seek for support from close friends and family as a coping strategy.
