Parenting styles are diverse and based on cultures contexts and temperaments (Cook " Cook, 2014). Some parenting styles are troubling necessitating the licensing of some parents. Some individuals have taken the aspect so seriously stating that parenting is a responsibility towards the children and a privilege but not a right (Archard, 2014). The argument is that the parents raising their biological children should also obtain official authorization similar to those adapting.
The idea is for providing a standard structure to establish parental competence before one becomes a parent. Second, the policy will save children from experiencing neglect and abuse by irresponsible parents (Archard, 2014). The plan also argues that irresponsible parenting is the primary cause of crime and violence since the children grow up in an uncivilized manner (Cook " Cook, 2014).
The policy proposes the law to require whoever wanting to become a parent to come with a committed partner for marriage. The couple is also expected to be of sound mind and not have any criminal records. The policy is a positive proposal although it has some severe constitutional implications on some individuals. Low-income earners though being goods parent may lack access to parenting rights. Similarly, single parents parenting right may be revoked in case of the loss of one’s other partner (Cook " Cook, 2014).
The Answer to the Question at the End of the Article
Only the parents whose competence in parenting is questionable should be licensed (Runcan " Goian, 2014). The rest of the parents should be granted sovereign authority to sire and raise their children or legal authority to adopt. Legal restrictions should not be imposed on other parents unless they compromise their parenting. The policy can only be implemented and enforced by the federal state through routine and random checks on the children’s conditions. Licensing of parents should be applied and incorporated in the current legal systems (Runcan " Goian, 2014).
The licensing should be harmonized to accommodate responsible parents from any economic class (Runcan " Goian, 2014). Restrictions to the number of the parents who should be granted the license should not be imposed for those wishing to raise the children alone as single parents. A standardized parent licensing policy will be a master tool in the protection of children, reduced instances of neglect, abuse and violent children who grow up becoming criminals (Runcan " Goian, 2014). In the situation a parent loses the parenting license, a replacement should be granted but not losing the custody of the child.
Types of Parenting Styles
A proper parenting style facilitates the development of a happy and a well-adjusted child concerning mentality and moral behavior (Cook " Cook, 2014). Parenting styles are modes applied by parents in handling their children. The first style is the authoritative parents who are warm and also exercise firm control over the children, use supportive disciplinary methods and clear communication channels. Second is the authoritarian parents who exert firm control but in a rejecting and harsh manner (Cook " Cook, 2014).
Third are permissive parents who tend to be warm but exercise little control. Such parents do not set nor enforce limits of conducts to their children. The parents avoid confrontations with the children and do not require the children to behave in an upright and civilized manner. The fourth class of parenting style is the neglecting parents who do not care to set a code of conduct to their children and do not also bother to respond to the needs of their children (Cook " Cook, 2014).
