It is evident that virtually all men have the same character and equally created, the only difference they have is endowment by the creator with some inalienable rights such as liberty, and actions of pursuing someone’s happiness. In the declaration, women are not mentioned, and the United States had a long way to bring all individuals inequality as a country. It was until 1920 when women had a priority to vote legally. Susan Glaspell “Trifles” play was based in 1916 and it depicts how women were denied the right to vote in political elections (Fernández, 164). The play talks about the married couple mystery murder of Mrs (Alkalay-Gut, 71). Wright and her husband, john wright and the victim of the murder; some other elements in this play is the feeling towards women by the society and the attribute how women are considered to be beneath the male (Alkalay-Gut, 76). “Trifles” reviews how men have the discriminatory mentality to women and the acceptance of the vice.
From the mystery of the murder, early exposure of men's attitude towards women has attributed prospectively. During a sequence of regularly followed investigation, Mr. Hale explains to the county attorney his encounter and his reasons to visit john mainly attempting to make John feel sure of buying the phone for the second time (Alkalay-Gut, 73). He believed he would increase the chances and get a more desirable answer; this hope was for the presence of John’s wife. The incident shows the predisposition john had to his wife to the audience that John was kind of a husband failed to care for properly in considerations of Mrs. Wright wishes (Fernández, 165). Mr. Hale is told by the county assembly that..” he was not willingly talking about that” promptly brushing off the analyzed piece of evidence which could be used in the detection of the crime; the county attorneys first were to note is incriminating Mrs. Wright by noting a strange look on the face.
According to the dialogue of the play, the men see non-consideration and regard in a specified way of what the women view as important or what is appropriate to the matter. Such is seen when Mrs. Peter comments on how Mrs. Wright is much worried by her fruit freezing, which was indeed had being left out, instead of the sheriff's shifts to speak with his partner contrary to what is expected for him to join in Mrs. Peters comment (Fernández, 170). The incident shows how women are beneath men and the attitude men have towards women in the society; for instance, a woman's ideas are regarded vague and unsure of what she might be talking about, this what kept men being superior to women according to their views. The dialogue illustrate how men used to ignore and unrespect women. The unfair perception of women by men is also illustrated when the sheriff speaks to his wife openly and reveals how meaningless the roles of women are in the house. The preconceived opinion that is not based on actual reason from the men is obvious, and some questions may arise from the audience or the reader how men treat women and the attitude towards them.
Undoubtedly, one of the often done themes in this play is lack of support from men. In real life, one should have a virtue idea of supporting others; each person should be in a position to treat each other, as he/she would require being treated. The play illustrates how the county attorney kicks the pan with his feet on the sink when he finds that there is no clean towel. The play illustrates how men have no respect for women and how positive attitudes they have towards women and the domestic violation is seen; there is gender inequality as seen. Instead, the county attorney could have solved the conflict wisely with the wife instead of the reaction he did (Alkalay-Gut, 73). Similarly, the women should be uniform to men in ideologies and giving ideas but should not be displayed as a type of discriminatory bias as the men view them. One of the most appropriate ways to solve marriage conflict is a consensus where both man and woman should accept the mistakes and solve them accordingly. The play clears show how men, which come out with no doubt the theme of the golden rule (Fernández, 169), violate women’s right.
Concisely, this play takes in a temporary state of mind or a feeling towards women and the relation to social status as men views how women are beneath them; showing how important Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter portray a role shares activities and effects situations on women. In 1916 was a time when women were given the privilege to vote legally hence show how the rights of women were violated both internationally and domestically (Fernández, 168). Also, the ideology of women should be regarded as important as those of men; for instance the occasion of the sheriff and his friend ignoring the comments given by Mrs. Peter concerning the fruit freezing; regarding this, Mrs. Peter had an idea but had no power over men. The incident illustrates vice in the society, where men believe women are always beneath them.
