Based on my research question on the methods used by the Florida Universities to recruit baseball players, the keywords “how do Florida Universities recruit for baseball players” availed many returns. I picked two articles from the results: a website and a database article. The website is titled “Florida Baseball Scholarships,” and the database is a paper titled “College Baseball Opportunities.”
The articles are both a guide on how the universities in Florida can provide students with a university degree while allowing them to further their baseball careers. The database breaks down the various divisions of baseball and the universities that fall under these categories. It also provides helpful suggestions for interested student-athletes and the procedures on how to choose the most appropriate school (NCAA). The website is a scholarship portal that links teams, coaches and student-athletes (NCSA). The site increases the students’ chances of receiving a subsidized education.
Whereas the website targets only student-athletes the database targets both student-athletes and any other interested party including teams and coaches. Due to a broader audience, the database has more information on the recruitment processes compared to the website. The provision of real-time examples and practical tips on how to secure recruitment makes the database article more authoritative. Unlike the database article, the site is updated more often, making it timelier. The database is the most relevant as it provides enough information on the number of baseball division and examples of the programs offered by each university. With the data, the reader can make informed decisions.
The research question was the basis of my search keywords. The keywords had to include the main contents of the research such as “Florida Universities,” “baseball players” and “recruit.” The search was however not very effective as the results included information not related to the research question and I had to increase the number of keywords and specify the type of articles. The research results hints that one has to determine the kind of material and use more specific keywords for better results and a better piece is one with a target audience.
