The Impact of Immigration on Europe
Immigrants have been on the rise in most countries globally. There has been some heated debate on whether sanctioning refugees into various nations, attributes to their development or deterioration. The article “Europe is making a Fatal Mistake,” articulates about the migrants in Europe. It focuses on the fact that assimilating Syrian and other Muslim emigrants from the Middle East, might be a catastrophe for Europe and the West (Prager, 2015).
Persecution of Jews, Christians, and Yazidis
Syria being associated with terrorism, targeted mostly the Jews, Christians, and Yazidis (Prager, 2015). The author recalls the holocaust of the dark moments revealed in pictures and videos of families escaping Syria, following the attacks between the Assad regime and the Islamic state (Prager, 2015). Majority of the Jews were affected by the subsequent events since they were beleaguered in the attacks. Moreover, in July 1938, it was horrifying to the Jews, with Hitler of Germany being in power and having a strong influence to diminish the Jews (Prager, 2015).
International Response to Jewish Refugee Crisis
Representatives from 32 countries gathered in Evian, France to deliberate on the humanitarian disaster that could affect the Jews and the possible solutions. However, the majority of the nations' withdrew from the issue, claiming that they were not accomplices of the problem (Prager, 2015). Following the occurrence, the Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom wrote an article for the "Guardian," comparing the Syrian refugees to the Jews of Europe before and after the catastrophe (Prager, 2015).
Europe's Experience with Muslim Refugees
The Jews refugees from Germany were assimilated in Europe, and they embraced the western culture and values, unlike the Muslims, whose values were merely different (Prager, 2015). The author elaborates on the bad experience that Europe had in the past years with Muslim refugees. He further explains that nine out of eleven attacks on American were masterminded by the Muslims refugees living in Germany (Prager, 2015). For instance, Muhammad Atta, the leader, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ziad Jarrah, Said Bahaji, and Marwan al-Shehhi had been migrants living in Germany for a duration of five to eight years and planned numerous attacks on America (Prager, 2015).
Hindrances to Assimilation
Additionally, some hindrances cannot allow more acclimatisation of the Muslim immigrants. The deterrents include; first, children of the refugees lacking full integration into the Europe society. Secondly, the economic growth and the redundancy rates are not vigorous enough to grip additional vast migrants (Prager, 2015). Lastly, larger refugee groups will increase case of terrorism in the countries (Prager, 2015). The author believes that the lack of America and Europe to act prudently caused the dreadfulness. However, he suggests that the West can arm the good Muslim guys with military hardware and that the Syrian war can end with refugees returning to their legal nation (Prager, 2015).
Comparing Jewish and Muslim Immigrants
On the analysis of the article, both Jews and Muslim immigrants are shifting to Europe fearing attacks that have been on the rise in Syria. However, Muslims refugees had a bad reputation regarding masterminding terrorist attacks. For instance, Muhammad Atta, the leader, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ziad Jarrah, and Marwan al-Shehhi had lived in Germany as immigrants for five to eight years, and were responsible for numerous attacks on America (Prager, 2015). During Europe's dark moment, when Hitler was reigning in power, all nations including Syria neglected to assimilate them as refugees claiming that they were not involved with the issue (Prager, 2015).
Integration and Assimilation
However, Europe absorbed Muslim refugees from Syria despite having terrible experiences with them. Additionally, Jews refugees from Syria integrated with the Europe culture and values with ease, unlike the Muslim migrants, who had a different perspective on their morals (Prager, 2015). The unification of the Jews with the Europe principles allowed them to socialize with the locals. On the contrary, the Muslims migrants lived in the ghettos, and integration with the inhabitants became difficult. Their solitary lifestyle provided them with the room to mastermind their attacks with ease. Nevertheless, their children were radical, and to some extent, they could integrate with ease. Moreover, Europe has been struggling with cases of unemployment and economic growth; hence, incorporation of more migrants is likely to cause competition for available resources. As a result, the economy and living standard will cause deterioration.
The Author's Perspective
I tend to believe with the author despite him being a Jew. Majority of the attacks conducted globally have been masterminded by Muslims, mainly the refugees. They have been using the attacks to manipulate powerful nations and ensuring attainment of their demands at the expense of others. Following these occurrences, I tend to believe that Europe is making a great mistake by assimilating millions of Muslim immigrants. As a result, terrorism will be on the rise in the West, and due to cases of insecurity more stakeholders will withdraw from the countries, hence, affecting their economy. Moreover, I tend to agree with the author that mediator nations such as America and Europe can aid in regaining security in Syria. Thus, the refugees can return to their rightful motherland.
