Does Entitlement Change the Behavior of People?

Does entitlement change the behavior of people?

It is a question that is undoubtedly arguable, and most people have thought of it in critical analysis. Negativity stands out as being the most common result of entitlement in the behavior of both children and adults. It is a way of thinking that is altered by the knowledge of entitlement by the parties involved. The essay explains in detail the problematic events that result from entitlement using two articles one by Jenny Sokol "Award this generation the 'Entitled' trophy" and the other by Denis Prager "The More Given, The Less earned." Hence the essay exploits the negativity that the two articles point out to bring out undoubtedly the negative consequences of entitlement among the children and the adults. From the analysis of the topic based on the two stories the essay agrees with the facts that the society emphasizes on the self-esteem leads to mediocrity.

Summaries

The more given, the less earned by Denis Prager explains the view of people in the society in talking about the expectations they have. It is essential that people understand what they need to earn as they have changed the interpretation of the word. They need to earn things from others and not expect that they ought to be getting that. People assume that God provides them with love, not in consideration with what they are doing. The children hope that their parents should contribute to the unconditional love. The society's expectations from others are what is making it vulnerable to mediocrity. It creates a chance that what is the right thing, in this case earning, to get from others is not well depicted. People should gain and not expect certain things to provide for them as that is what made America great. Without the value of earning as Prager states America will not be what it is and hence earning anything should be mandatory for a prosperous society.

Sokol, on the other hand, uses herself to explain how change has affected the society as a whole. The society, on the other hand, has resulted in mediocrity to further parenting. She states that her mother was a parent that got focused on determining what was right for her. She told her to stop doing Ballerina lessons as that was not the right pick for her. She changed to try out winning the role of Little Orphan Annie on Broadway. And her mother made her realize that was not the right thing. Sokol then switched to a talent that was somewhat better for her. Her mother helped her understand this. In the modern set up parents are different her included as she states, "Today's Parents fret about their children's self-confidence and self-esteem. She hosted an event on swimming, and when it came to rewarding the best performers, she noted that all children expected to be given ribbons even when they had not deserved it. It showed that they were in need affected severely by the society set up they were in.

Analysis

Based on Prager's article he points out that the society has deviated from the norms of earning anything and everything to the point that they expect things to get done for them. They believe that they are entitled to certain things from others. It is from this mediocrity that has forced the society to change and leave behind the values that they necessarily need to build a better tomorrow and a better country. The actions of each person are the building blocks that have deteriorated the entire welfare of the nation they are the primary cause of calamity within the society (Prager).

Is the morality of the society to blame for their actions?

Maybe not. It is fundamental to establish the significant problem that the nation faces. Entitlement has made the society blind to the real facts these are the values and obligations that the people have concerning the community. It is fundamentally important that people earn what they ought to have to bring a sense of harmony while bringing out a sense of belonging. The mediocrity in the society will get eliminated while uplifting the values that truly matter in the community.

Sokol explains in detail in her article the changes in life that she has had and what impacts they have brought out in her.

Is it easy for the people to want to make their children happy at the expense of the real facts that exist? It has become a mediocre community with the society losing the sense of parenting. Previously as Sokol claims parents were hard on their children with the best intentions for them to succeed. They were frank and honest to the children and told them what the problem was. Honesty at the time is a real virtue that has diminished over time to the uncalled for lying. It has forced the society to lead a mediocre lifestyle that has ended up destroying the children (Sokol).

The society at large expects that certain things are better left unsaid. However, this is not the case as previously they were said and helped the current parents to develop into better people in the society. The children are expectant of certain things because their parents teach them that is the way. In parenting, creating the children's self-esteem is better than just being a standard type of lifestyle that does not build the child to a better version of the child but only considers the child's emotions.

Conclusively, the society is bent on the children's news, and the well-being of the children's self-esteem has blinded the parents to their role of parenting. Parents must ensure that they help in the development of their children and they are involved in fighting the mediocrity portrayed as caring for the child's self-esteem. It is such lying that leads to negative children's growth than the fact that it plays on their children's self-esteem.
