The events that occurred at Smuttynose Island have for a long time been associated with Louis Wagner. On March 6, 1873, Annette and Karen were murdered. It has, however, become difficult to prove whoever killed him (Seacoast). Some suspects were of interest in the case. However, most of the people have thought that Wagner killed the two individuals. I, however, feel that Wagner was not guilty of the murders.
The primary issue that proves the innocence of Wagner is the alternative suspect theories. One of the primary suspects in the case is Maren Honvet. Wagner says that the close relationship between him and the victims could be the easiest way to get away with the criminal activities that she had committed (Seacoast). Wagner said that Maren could have possibly strangled her sister and hacked her sister in law with an ax before walking barefoot across the Island to make the story believable. Wagner said that whoever killed the two women knew the house well and could find her way through the dark.
The other theory that Louis used to prove that he was not guilty of the crime that he had been accused of is the theory of John Honvet. According to Wagner, there were constant disagreements between the victims and John. He was bitter because the two women were consuming a lot of his money through the grocery bills. Louis stated that John could have been the killer. He creates a conspiracy theory between the couple. Wagner said that John could have killed the two victims and used the wife to cover their tracts. The various pieces of evidence presented by Wagner eliminates him from the list of suspects (Seacoast). Although the evidence presented against him is strong, his counter-argument and theories on alternative suspects create a different story that proves him not guilty.
