Goals of casa amiga and other families
The main goal of the families was to know what was happening to their loved ones. They held protests which were meant to compel the police to carry out more serious investigations. They were also in search of evidence which could tell them who took or killed their daughters. Esther’s main goal was to build alliances that would help to direct the focus on the problem of violence against women and lack of services available to them. She formed a group known as March 8 which formed an alliance with VSE and together they managed to get state officials to appoint a special prosecutor dedicated to the investigation of crimes against women. They also managed to convince the city officials to involve the United States FBI in the investigations.
While the families were concentrating mostly on solving the crimes, Casa Amiga main concern was dealing with the root problem. The organization aimed at changing the culture by helping women recognize they are not objects of violence and making men understand that relationships are based on respect.
Goals of Casa Amiga and businesses
The main goals of Casa Amiga and the families have been clearly highlighted in the previous question. This goals contrast those of the city of Juárez in that the main aim of the city was to prove that their workforce was operational. This is the reason that drove the rejection of part of the report presented by the FBI. They also aimed at creating a difference between domestic and criminal violence. They easily dispelled cases where women were killed by their husbands.
Business owners were worried over the reputation that Juarez was acquiring due to the murders taking place there. Due to the efforts made b Casa Amiga to voice these injustices and come up with a solution, the government together with business owners came up with several strategies aimed at thwarting the efforts of Casa Amiga.
Barriers overcome by Casa Amiga
Casa Amiga worked under conditions of opposition from both the government, businesses and some family groups such as the CVAWF. They made the situation known internationally which attracted international attention and consequently international help. Despite the opposition from the local government, they were able to acquire funding for six months of $3000 which was used to cover the operational costs and salaries of the employees. Casa Amiga was also seriously understaffed but this did not hinder their work. They were able to get 200 new appoints per months and covered over 900 appointments within the month. The staff were also overworked and underpaid but this did not discourage their hard work.
Solution against women violence
Women violence is a deeply embedded problem in this society and rooting it out may take a long time. One of the ways to reduce the violence is by providing self-defense classes to the women. They are usually attacked due to their weak nature and lack of ability to protect themselves. However, providing these skills is a sure way of reducing the violence since they are able to protect themselves.
