Tuesday’s with Morrie

A public gathering is one that is normally open to the general public. The novel seems to make Morrie's death a public occurrence since, in the book, the older man advises his former student about survival as his body deteriorates "The disease is known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." " The author's words clearly describe it." "But my old professor had made a profound decision, one he started to prepare the day he came out of the doctor's office with a sword dangling from his belt” (10). Furthermore, after hearing of his illness, he had a profound decision as Morrie knew he would die. Thus he kept on preparing and setting peoples mind that he would die, however, the old man saw it as a blessing. For example, he says "I'm on the last great journey" (33).

Nevertheless, Morrie action of making his death a public event makes his death similar to those that we witness in our day to day life. Just like any other person, Morrie death was slow and time consuming death. In addition to this, Morrie contracted a life destroying disease making his death similar to those that happen in our society. Generally, in our community, most of the reported deaths are said to consume the deceased slowly, and as well such deaths are associated with life-destroying diseases. However, what makes Morrie death different from what we experience each day is that he was prepared to die, in fact, he sees death as a blessing as a blessing then the work of some invisible force (24). Contrary to this, many people in our society aren't ready to die. Even after contracting diseases, Morrie knows that there are some people who will be left after his death, thus he goes ahead to say goodbye to all his loved ones (29). Finally, Morrie knows that he will die but he sees the bright side of it. Unlike many people in the society who sees the negative side of death. Morrie knew that once he is dead, he is no longer with people contrary to this the community we live in believes that the soul still exists even after death. For example, the author says that some people think that "that all things on earth have some souls that exist in a miniature form of the body that holds it" (33).

However, we can argue that Morrie teaches much about life, and just like him, people ought to take life easy and to be prepared for anything especially death. The fact remains that we are all victims of death.
