The United States Secret Service
The United States Secret Service is an organization within the Department of Homeland Security and has two primary functions: prosecuting financial fraud and protecting current and former presidents, their vice presidents, dignitaries, and visiting political officials, as well as their families. The task of protecting the country's head is one of the most important since government leaders represent the nation and their security is crucial.
The US Secret Service Power and Influence
The US secret service achieves power by being endlessly scrutinized by the media. This is how they defend high-profile celebrities, and as a result, they are often featured in the mainstream, demonstrating their professionalism. Recent media coverage shows their influence: when president-elect Donald Trump proposed to hire private security guards (The folly of Trump's) causing a public uproar. Secondly, the service, which has a track record of being proactive, was in the news when they were giving their plans to move into the Trump towers and to rent out a whole floor to set up a command center to be used in protecting the Trump family efficiently (Secret service considering). Finally, the Service's professionalism has been shown as they liaise with other agencies, for instance, they held a discussion with the police force on the balancing of the president elects security and the needs of pedestrians near the Trump power (Fifth Avenue in front). The above three examples show the agency in action over the last two month, and why they have been successful in service delivery. This is the reason why they have gained much influence on the citizens and politicians alike.
The US Secret Service's Influence
As seen in the recent news, the US secret service has been active and on the forefront in the protection of the US President-elect Donald Trump. No other agency under the Homeland Security or Department of Defense is constantly in the public view like US Secret Service because it protects high profile individuals. This public attention, professionalism, and constant media attention make the US secret service the most influential agency.
