The Primary Mission of the United States Government
The primary mission of the United States government is to ensure the well-being of its people. The declaration starts in the Preamble to the United States Constitution by saying that, we the People, who intern declare the government not as a distinct aristocracy but as one of its population.
According to the introductory statement, the guiding principles are to:
- Create a perfect union among citizens
- Provide justice
- Insure/protect domestic tranquillity
- Provide for a popular defense
- Foster the general well-being of the people
- Secure the Blessing for Liberty to ourselves and our posterity
In, the United States citizens have been on the front line to ensure its achievement. The forming of a perfect union continued motive to guarantee that the country becomes a free nation has led to the institution of strategies that will affirm the abolishment of struggles that has staggered the "union" of citizens. The country has struggled with poverty, discrimination, slavery among others over the past. Moreover, despite the challenges sturdy individual have come up to unite the nation and establish a perfect union among the United States citizens as the Preamble of the constitution outlines.
Establishing Justice
The constitution also set to establish justice in the country. The administration has currently emphasized that justice should be attained regardless of personality and political stand. Bush during his administration era, tried to warrant justice prevailed in Iraq after the attack in 2001. The move by the various government bodies such as African American Civil Right body and activists depict that the country's' willingness to confirm justice among its citizen and also across borders.
Insuring Domestic Tranquillity
Individuals wish that our country can ensure domestic tranquillity. A state of been calm. We cannot despise the criticism which has been made upon the various bodies in the government, since this show that the nation has not delivered its mandate to ensure the country is calm. However, as the constitutions state the government has done very little to provide domestic tranquillity. Currently, many people have noted that the government is doing "wrong" things each dawn creating a state of anxiety on what the next move would be. President Trump moves in the country has raised concern from the Paris climate deal among others which are causing division among administration leaders. Therefore the as a nation we have a lot to do.
Providing for Common Defense
The United States has been termed as a dominant nation in the world, but the question arises, is the nation presently striving to provide for common defense. People believe that having great troops who achieve significant milestones in providing security in other nation means that the country is entirely safeguarded and threat-proof. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The government intensively encourage people to join the army, navy and the national defense team to provide maximum safety. Nevertheless, recent attacks such as the Vegas Music Festival where 58 people have shot means despite the power, the country has overlooked on common defense while having a questionable defense and threat preparedness.
Fostering General Welfare
In the preamble, our country attempts to promote the general welfare to all its citizens, where folks labor together for a collective good. People have formally endorsed volunteer groups who are ordained to save lives and cater for the general peoples' affairs. The United States willingness to ensure general welfare is evident from the state of response during the recent tsunami tragedy in the Southern coast, where numerous government and non-government bodies set camps and took part in the rescue mission to ensure the resident of the affected regions were safe. Unfortunately, we cannot say the government has achieved the expected milestone in this case. Several affiliated programs such as Empowerment Zones which encourage citizens to engage in community service to help and promote inner cities neighborhood says some people take the initiative as a punishment. Although all the people of United States are working together for the welfare of others, it's upsetting to see that we are forced to do so.
Securing the Blessing of Liberty
In the initiative to secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, there needs to protect the environment we live in and the properties in it. As a nation, there are dreams and targets we ought to achieve. Similarly, we wish that our children and the generation to come lives in an environment that is safe and which will bring delight and prosperity. As a nation, with the help from the local and state government, we have a lot to do to attain the set level of safety and community development. Different laws have been passed in various states with a motive to spur growth and development in those regions. This initiative by the government manifest that the nation has protected the blessing of liberty.
Inadequacies of the Articles of Confederation
The conventional of the Articles of Confederation unified the thirteen colonies that were involved in the fight for the American Revolution. Each state tried to be independent within the sovereign government, which was only purposed solitary to provide common defense and general welfare (Pollack 754). However, the Article failed due to the following shortcoming.
Lack of Control and Taxing Power
The United States just scuffle a war to end the tyrannical rule which had overpowered the local and state government, therefore failed to give the central administration the control to lead effectually. The congress was not given the power to correct tax from people through the placing of tariffs on imported goods, therefore, led the governments to print currency causing economic anarchy amongst states. The articles failed to address the authority where the government had no chief executive who would administer the law that was conceded.
Weaknesses in Enforcement
The deficiency of executive branch implied that the government would accomplish diminutive or nothing on implementing the laws that it made. The implication to the limited power predestined that it would depend on states on enforcing the bills which were made where they were at risk of the law presented laws been rejected if there are not favorable or in line with what the states expect. On the incapability to impose and correct taxes fated that the government would not reliably raise revenue to fund its maneuvers which made them a request for money where in some cases, they were denied.
After realizing that the articles were not working, the states abandoned the articles with some states inaugurating to making an indistinct agreement with the extraneous government. As a remedy to the problem encountered from the Articles of Confederation, the new constitution now allows the Congress to levy taxes on imported goods and individuals while regulating trade between states. The power of the judicially has also been heightened where the constitution allows the federal government to handle disputes on the law of the land and even raise an army which would supervise and manage military situations.
