the "Modern" Man of Literate compare and contrast

The planet is experiencing continuous change, ensuring developments in nearly every area of human existence. As a result, the advent of a large topic of modernism that seeks to clarify the meaning of the modern human being and what constitutes literacy has been necessitated. It is a comprehensive topic that presents the subject from a multifaceted perspective and has culminated in multiple scholars writing on the subject. Henri Bergson and F. Scott Fitzgerald are two such writers whose perspectives on the subject are primarily shaped by the interactions they underwent and the changes that occurred in their lives. While I agree with Fitzgerald on the fact that modernism is changing to materialism and extravagant lifestyle, I believe that Bergson’s idea is more attractive in the understanding of modernism.

The approach by F. Scott Fitzgerald on the subject of modernism takes the approach of the changes that took place in his life until his death. Initially, Fitzgerald was a lieutenant in the army and fell in love at the time. However, he later shifted to authorship where he wrote several book. He was, however, unsuccessful in a large part of the century considering he led an extravagant lifestyle. It is thee that he wrote the book that became the change he wanted as it brought him to fame. The book, The Great Gatsby, is arguably the writing where F. Scott Fitzgerald write his perception about modernity and the literature world because he explores the subject from the perceptive of being extravagant (Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby). It appears that the author feels that alcoholism and engaging in materials ad love are what define a man and i what should be perceived in the American dream. It thus follows that the man’s perception of modernism is tied to achieving a luxurious lifestyle. In fact, is it is even recorded that he died of heart disease, a condition that could easily be traced to the life that he led before he dies because diabetes is a lifestyle disease.

The other author whose work is appropriate in the understanding of the concept of modernism is Henri Bergson whose works in the understanding of modernism is traced back to the 1960s nd the 1970s in the Vietnam war. The modernists at the time desires to reinvent ways in which they would express themselves with the urge being critical and necessary in many disciplines. The arts sector, for example, perceived it as a facet of the art world where advances in the modern world are achieved through focusing on the experimentation process. It thus requires that the modern man redefines the way they understand the aspect of for, which will increase the way they perceive the world in a positive manner. the approach of experimentation has since been extended to many other sectors of the economy and new ways continues to be advanced on the planet. The author cites many other aspects of the entertainment scene such as the media world where he quotes that animations resulted from the need to meet the customer needs. It thus follows that the element of literary consciousness.

From the analysis of the two author, it is plausible to affirm that the author whose viewpoint is most represented of the modern world is Henri Bergson whose background of knowledge is versed. One of the most important aspect of modernism that I second that Bergson advocates for is the concept of transformation in the understanding of form. I perceive form as the default understanding of anything in its typical state. Thus, the change process must include shifting from the state that is conceived to a new form that is much better, referred to as a transformation. The thinking implies that it is only through advancing to better states that modernism is perceived. Meanwhile, the other author whose argument is relatable but who I do not agree with in Fitzgerald who contends that modernism is achieved through engaging in extravagance and materialism. By looking at the situation in many of the modern cities in the world that are perceived as modern, it is apparent that Fitzgerald’s idea is the true description of the word. However, I do not agree with this viewpoint because it does not make the world a better place when society engages in wasteful behavior in the name of fun.

In summary, the readings across the week have been informative in the understating of the advances in the world today. I agree with Bergson on the idea of modernism because he appears to understand it in the context of advancing from the traditional systems and mindset by advancing life into better standards. Thus, overall, it is apparent that just as authors present varied viewpoints on the subject of modernism, so are the readers’ perception when going through the highlighted principles. It is thus recommended that the current generation be cautious on how they perceive a modern society because they could find themselves living worse that the traditionalists.
