Writing assignments is one of the things that I expected to challenge me when I join college. I was poor in handling assignments, and I knew this would subject me to a lot of pressure based on the fact that college education is associated with completing many assignments. Few days to joining college, I expressed my worry to my parents informing them that I was not prepared for college-level writing. However, I overcame this notion by working extremely hard. I believe my progress is tremendous based on how I have completed my classwork this semester.
At the beginning of this semester, I presented a lot of weakness in structuring my assignments. Apart from experiencing difficulties in citing my sources properly, I clustered ideas in the same paragraphs. Similarly, I failed to acknowledge the authors of the sources I used in completing most of my assignments. For instance, I avoided citing page number and the authors’ names as required in different writing formats when referring to examples provided in articles. In addition to this, I did not provide the citations of sources I referred to when handling the assignment to help the reader understand the source of the ideas in my work. All these mistakes in writing made my assignments confusing to the reader.
Many of the assignments I have received from my professors after marking shows improvement in my writing. The comments in them indicate that my ideas are clear and well structured. Equally, I can learn from those comments that I made not only strong points but also cited used sources correctly. I believe these comments evidence the progress I made in this semester. However, some few issues were spotted by the readers of my work. Most of my works had very few sources. According to the readers of my works, I am ambitious but lazy. They believe that I can reach my potential if I overcome that ‘distraction’ that is barring me from maintaining consistency.
However, receiving higher grades in most of my research papers this semester is a great sign of advancement. In addition to improving my writing and using numerous examples and commentary, I completed most of my assignments in time. At the beginning of the semester, I used to spend a lot of my time writing as well as deciding on what to include in my work. I think the struggle I underwent in part of this semester enriched me with the required experience. Similarly, the process of researching in the entire semester was enriching since it helped me do a great job in my final papers. When doing assignments, I will ensure I have employed the synthesis matrix in organize all my contents.
The assignments and class-work for this semester have helped me expand my knowledge in different areas. For instance, I have learned on how to use critical thinking skill in completing my assignments. I think I also understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid it when writing. I can always refer to my assignments and research to guarantee my future work is void plagiarism and other errors related to writing. I can also confirm that the structuring of the class contributed to my success in this semester. I managed to balance my time effectively for all my classes.
In summary, I am proud of all the progress I have made in this semester. I have acquired so much within the few months a thing that I never expected. The skills that I learned this semester would be of great help in my studies. In fact, I feel more than prepared for my next semester.
