The Importance of Sociological Theory and Its Relevance

The feminism method, which argues on the inspiration and concepts for the women's movement, is named the sociological theory used in this research. For a variety of purposes, this principle is valid and significant in this discussion. To begin, the approach aids in the understanding of sexuality by emphasizing that people are identified by their gender status as well as their socioeconomic status. Feminists argue that regardless of the economic system, each person is born as a man or a woman. On this note, gender identity is not a trivial aspect of people's lives; it significantly impacts a person's social life and personality. This theory perceives gender as a set of norms and social identity that is supposed to guide behavior. The argument here is that people are not born men or women; they attain these gender identities sometimes through coercion or a social process of learning. This concept is as well relevant and important in this discussion because it highlights that based on sexuality; the human’s sexual preferences, feelings, and desires are deeply imprinted by an individual’s gender status. The assessment of sexuality has shifted from being a marginal concern to one of the most dynamic fields of research and sociological theorizing (Van Krieken et al. 1).

The Merits of the Theory

The feminist sociological theory has many benefits in regards to the discussion about sexuality. First, the fundamental principle inherent in the approach is that it demonstrates the association between gender and sexuality. The standpoint of the theory varies from the contention that the link between sexuality and gender almost overlap to the principle that there is no significant difference between the two. Secondly, the argument assumes that sexuality comes out in the course of the development of an individual. Here, the family plays a significant responsibility in the elaboration of the sexual self. Boys and girls have somewhat different sexual orientations and values because they experience different parent-child dynamics.

The feminism theory also argues that sex is fundamentally political and social. Ideally, the approach claims that the very essence of sexuality, which involves acts, pleasures, fantasies, and desires, reveals the men’s wish for dominance and control. As such, the sexual liberation of the women entails the women fashioning a sexual life that reflects their desires, feelings, and needs. The point here is for the women to claim the power to fashion their sexual-intimate lives and to define their sexual desires. Another principle inherent in the feminist theory is that it presents a clear framework for evaluating the social positioning of women. Therefore, it argues for the reassessment of social and political power, the government, as well as social inequity and structure. Besides, it has also enabled an evolutionary and slow advancement with the political, social, and economic realm of women, which has advanced their rights (Van Gundy and Kappeler 6).

Reviews of News Magazine Articles

The name of the first news magazine article is the “transfeminist thinker, Julia Serano, talk’s trans-misogyny.” The author is Jeanne Carstensen and the year of publication is June 22nd, 2017. In this article, there are significant issues addressed that reflect on the fundamentals of the feminism theory. The first one revolves around Serano’s manifesto, which connects transphobia with sexism and it aims to transform attitudes towards femininity. The second issue is that feminine trait has historically been ridiculed in comparison to gender expression and masculine interest. The third point is that feminism concerns are abolishing sexism. The fourth issue is that feminism needs a cheerleader since it is in many ways a defense and celebration of the feminine gender expression. The fifth issue is that many women are identified as feminists as a result of experiences in sexism, which has led them to become more involved and passionate about feminism (Carstensen).

The name of the second news magazine is “a feminist scholar comes up with an intersectional quantum physics to put off oppression.” The author is Lukas Mikelionis, and the publication date is May 30th, 2017. Mikelionis has no academic training in physics, but she managed to come up with “intersectional quantum physics” theory to fight oppression. There are also major issues addressed in this news article that reflects the fundamentals of the feminism theory. The first problem is that combining quantum physics and intersectionality will assist to create safer spaces for marginalized people and understand them as well. The second issue is that the traditional theory of quantum physics should be modernized for the reason that it underpins the current social system and its attendant classism, sexism, and racism. Therefore, the issue blames the laws of motion of Isaac Newton as the main force encouraging this oppression of people (Mikelionis).

The third is that the article suggests that the quantum physics should be combined the intersectional feminist theory so as to fight the need to group individuals by considering the exploitative groupings. The fourth issue is the argument that science has in the past affected activism by small minority groups. This is as a result of the propensity to classify individuals, which consequently outshines the attempts of small groups by the identity groups, which dominates them. The fifth issue involves calling for devices that allow oppression, in this case, the Newtonian physics, so that it moves towards dynamics that are less oppressive (Mikelionis).
