Society in equilibrium

The dispute viewpoint, functionalist perspective, and symbolic interactionist perspective are all sociological viewpoints. To hold society in equilibrium, functionalists define interconnected roles of social units such as family, school, religion, economy, and politics (Ritzer & Stepnisky, 2017). Single-parent families, for example, have led to low school achievement by preventing parents from monitoring their children's education. On the other hand, the conflicting viewpoint depicts society as a unit made up of various elements vying for resources and strength. As a result of this theory, society is divided into haves and have-nots, resulting in unequal access to critical social services, especially for the have-nots, such as proper education and food. Symbolic interactionism holds that our self-concept is viewed regarding how we treat others. For example, when minorities are treated fairly, such a society is seen as just and fair.

Q2

Stereotype and group blame are similar terms which refer to a general view about specific types of people or an individual exhibiting certain types of behaviors as a whole (Wasarhaley et al. 2017 ). For instance, the Arab Americans responded to the 9/11 attack by claiming that they were the targeted group of suspects of that bombing. They insisted the attack insinuated cases of ethnic prejudices among the Muslim communities in America. This view differs from the external ethnic groups who view the 9/11 attack as an act of terrorism.

Q3

The U.S still holds unfavorable comments about the race issue as expressed in Donald Trump’s campaign messages, where he called for the deportation of Muslims and Africans and continuously alienated Mexicans from the U.S (Baker 2017). These sentiments are based on conflict theory which assumes that the society is based on gender and race inequalities. Interactionist theory is similarly used to propagate these opinions since the Mexicans have been socially excluded from the U.S due to drug dealing accusations. Debates were formed to analyze race factors such as eliminativism, racial population naturalism, constructivism and racial conservationism.

Q4

Hispanics in Latin America are offered poor education and health services. For instance, they are offered less lucrative courses compared to students of America origin. Similarly, In America, blacks are exposed to tedious procedures to acquire a house compared to whites. Police profiling is also high in black-dominated states.

Q5

The perspectives include interactionist, functionalist and conflict. Interactionist theory has been applied in Muslim discrimination in the U.S because of its perceived relationship with terrorism. Functionalist theory similarly has been used to propagate fear of Muslim influence which believes in jihadism, a, a function that requires submission of one’s life to Allah. Conflict theory also is used in that the dominant Jews religion in the U.S is always in constant conflict regarding which religion is the best.

Q6

Feminism arose due to the exclusion of females in the Anti-slavery convention in London, negative media stories about women and sexual harassments in the public institutions in the 1990s ( Ray 2017).The movement saw the female enrollment in universities surpass that of men in 1970s, discrimination based on sex was prohibited and work expectations among women increased.

Q7

The 2000 census on gay marriage showed that many gay parented children are appropriately raised without adverse effects on their academic and psychological well-being (Loftin 2014). Most churches, however, are opposed to this marriage since it negates the conventional purpose of marriage. The opposing and supporting factions, therefore, follow legal redress, which is then incorporated in the constitution.
