Self-evaluation is a thoughtful process

Self-evaluation is a deliberate method of evaluating one's overall results, competencies, and priorities in the past. The review is conducted by self-assessment, in which the assessor voluntarily engages in the appraisal of his or her own person. The aim of this step is not only to assess past success, but also to provide a foundation for increased dedication to meeting goals and personal preparation (Tesser 182). This article evaluates recent patterns in self-evaluation as well as particular lessons that I can derive from current trends in light of my perceived shortcomings and strengths. Furthermore, it examines the new priorities that I should devise, as well as the path to achieving the set objectives. There has been a lot of psychological reasoning in support of self-evaluation. The theory of goal setting describes this process of self-evaluation as successful in the motivation of persons in the organizational psychology field (Tesser 206). The theory suggests that every action is motivated by main aim or a conscious desire to obtain or achieve. It suggests that if individuals find out that they are underperforming, they become motivated to increase the efforts.

The psychology of self-esteem also relates the self-evaluation to the self esteem of a person. Self-esteem of a person determines what evaluative information in the tests that the person is likely to utilize. Persons with high self-esteem are possible to use a lot of comparison from the social aspects of life as compared to persons with low self-esteem that can utilize the different information in a more balanced manner.

Despite the psychological support, self-evaluation has been in the spotlight. The evidence of self-evaluation is capable of misuse by other persons. It may also be used as evidence in the expulsion cases unless the information contained in the self-evaluation forms are not confidential. Additionally, the self –evaluation is capable of resulting in a chilling effect in the whole process of personal goal-setting.

The different tests conducted shows that the self-evaluation has various trends. First, self-evaluations are multi-dimensional. The four criteria performed shows that the information focuses on both the personal competencies, academics, and the behavior within the external environment. The evaluation is thus becoming multi-dimensional where a person can still exhibit particular strong characters such as life skills but would be weak in maintaining relationships within organizations.

The self-evaluation tests are inter-connected. The Myer-Briggs test on duty fulfillment explains that I am not good at fulfillment of duties in unfamiliar areas and attributes this to lack of confidence. The EQ test also notes the self awareness is hindered by lack of confidence. This explains that the methods of evaluations are not operating in exclusion of each other. Instead, they are complementary and can be used to support the other.

The formulated tests of self-evaluation are substantially accurate. There are mild examples of variances from reality. For example, the Genderbread person test result is different from the fact of political tendency. Thus, there is a need for more clarity in the expression of some tests.

As a result of the tests conducted, I can draw specific personal lessons. First, self-evaluation has helped me to understand myself as a progressive person who traces people’s actions from the existing societal structures as opposed to locating the problems from the individual activities. I have also learned that the past experiences influence the skills and competencies of a person. For instance, the advice by my parents to distinguish between wrong and right has shaped my leadership style to date. Additionally, my history in Korean education system has profoundly influenced my attitude towards teamwork.

I have also understood that the skill of confidence is the most important personal skill that influences personal awareness and relationships management. It is the most important for without it; there is no appreciation of others or even feedback in any communication process. If I solve this single problem, it shall also solve others problems.

Apart from the lessons, I have also been able to identify my most significant weaknesses. The different test being the EQ test, Myer-Briggs test, Gender-bread test, and Color test explain the various vulnerabilities that I experience as a person. Though the weaknesses are many, the trials espouse the most significant deficiencies which made me unable to achieve the total obtainable points in the tests. First is the dislike for teamwork. I feel very comfortable when I work alone as opposed to working in a team. My earlier education background in Korea where students at the Universities did not value working in groups has informed this.

Also, I have not appreciated the need to be family minded. All the time, I have valued the goal of making money limited only to meeting my expectations and needs. This has made me yearn to make more money in life to the exclusion of my wife’s and baby’s interests. This has continuously led to many family feuds and upheavals. Even when the conflicts would arise, I cannot tolerate them without emotional changes.

I also have a great dislike for new circumstances and unfamiliar areas. Meaning I am a conservative who approaches his works in very methodological and organized ways. I believe that things can only be done as planned. Any change in the styles and programs threatens me. My experience in the past best explains this adaptability weakness. When my father suggested that I come to the United States to study business, I resisted. In fact, my decision to go to the United States was only as a result of the pressure from my father. However, it is true that the adaptability problem does not affect my education system.

The other weakness is explained by my self- evaluation in the EQ test. I have a problem with the core skill of giving feedback. My disinterest in working with the people is the origin of this. Also, my fear in providing input for fear of people's negative thinking is a significant cause. What this means, therefore, is that my communication channels are not often complete. This severe weakness of communication is the basis of all social and professional relationships.

Also, I lack confidence and recognize that it is difficult to boost my confidence. In fact, this lack of confidence has resulted in lack of appreciation for organizational values and behaviors. It happens despite the fact that values and reactions are the most important in any setting as compared to the social life.

Despite the identified weaknesses, the test conducted explains that I can make substantial scores thus showing my strengths in various areas of life. I am socially aware of the culture of people and their perspectives in life. I also understand the individuality of people. It helps me to understand the experience of persons around me and to be able to relate well to the social circles of life. Also, I possess specific life skills and a personality that ensure useful personal development. First, I can adjust to education system easily. Therefore, I am comfortable with the academic routines and following school rules and regulations. Also, I prefer to maintain stability in any form of work. Meaning, despite exhaustion at very late night hours, I can persevere to ensure that my assignments are completed well before I sleep.

My leadership capacity to distinguish the right from the wrong has also developed from childhood. The need to follow the rules further complements it. The consequence is the ease in makes it wading through the bureaucratic nature of works that require the constant following of laid down procedures. These skills make me stand out as a person who can be a leader from a family set up to the organizational leadership.

I am also able to balance the left-wing authoritarianism and progressivism. The reason for this is that my political tendency is much closer to progressivism that conservatism. This has ensured that I am tolerant to persons of extreme societal propositions. For example, despite being a heterosexual, I still believe that homosexual people should be allowed to have their choice. This is so despite the fact that heterosexuals and conservatives are usually opposed to the homosexuals.

The above explanations indicate that my self-evaluation has achieved the role of highlighting my weaknesses and the strengths. The information from the evaluation based on the scores is also essential in all respects of my life; political, social, economic, and more specifically in my academic life as a student.

The information has enabled me to be active in the evaluation of myself. The reason is that; I am an introverted person who enjoys working alone. That way, I am unable to get opportunities for operations that can critique my actions and reactions for my personal development. Even if the critiques were to come, I am weak at giving feedbacks. Consequently, the information from the test and the information are the best bases for evaluating me. I can relate the finding to my experience and to come up with conclusions and possible suggestions for solutions.

The information available from the test results has also increased my commitment to achieve and to set goals for myself. The gaps appearing as a result of the scores in the tests helps in making a gap analysis for myself and suggesting the actions to be taken in line with the test qualities to fill that gap efficiently. For example, it has helped me to appreciate the need for teamwork in school processes and school work. It has also helped me in developing the need to change my attitude towards the change of my attitude towards working with people.

The overall impact of this self-evaluation information in the scores is the highlighting of weaknesses, identification, and utilization of my academic skills. More importantly, it has enabled me to appreciate the areas that need improvement in my school work as a student.

As a result of the impacts, as a student and a family man, I have come up with new goals to fill the gaps existing as a form of challenges. After undergoing the tests, I have rethought my life goals. My new life goal is to make sufficient money. It represents a shift from what my life goal was before reconsidering. Initially, my goal was making money with no certainty in the idea of how much the money should be. This need for the change in the goal is because of my baby that I need to bring up. I now recognize that bringing the baby up will require sufficient money.

Another new goal that I have is to be family-minded in my purpose of making money. The meaning is that my interests in making money must move from just making money for self-satisfaction. It should be made to target the benefit of my whole family. I have learned that lack of funds and abject poverty in family settings are the problems that cause constant family feuds. Additionally, that I am a family man who has to take care of the wife and our baby informs this. It will ensure that I can build a harmonious family which will be productive, stability and sustainable in the long run.

It is also my goal to solve the problem of lack of confidence. The confidence is a prime area for improvement for it is the basis of my many challenges such as lack of giving feedback and dislike for teamwork.

To achieve the set goals, I will change the negative attitudes towards teamwork and collaboration. It will involve an increased appreciation of the role of the people in my life activities. This will cause a shift in my operations, organizational values and behaviors. It will also ensure that I give prompt feedback on any message that I receive. It will guarantee completeness and effectiveness in communication processes involving me.

In conclusion, the self-evaluation that I conducted has been of great importance to me. Despite the slight accuracy concerns, it is clear that the tests are an intense reflection of the dimensions covered by the tests given my personality and social life aspects. Additionally, there are also viable lessons like the need to boost my confidence which is the primary cause of my undoing. The set goals such as the change of attitude if implemented would improve my personal development going forward.
