Saudi Arabia Women's Rights Research

Saudi Arabian Women's Rights
In most communities, women are thought to be submissive and are expected to do as they are told without question. However, it has been decided that certain activities are not favorable to them in the majority of cases. Scholars have noted that women in most countries worldwide, especially in Saudi Arabia, are subjected to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), which has negative consequences for their bodies. There have been several deaths recorded due to the procedure, which has caused sorrow in different societies. Although female genital mutilation (FGM) is a traditional practice that dates back to ancient times, pmeasures should be introduced and implemented to ensure that its adverse impacts have been reduced in the nations across the globe. Therefore, FGM is one of the common practices that should be wiped out of the society, and this can be achieved successfully by the village elders after they have been educated on its impacts on the girl-child.

FGM has been explained as a process involving the total or partial removal of the external part of the female genitalia, or the injury of genital organs in a female for medical purposes. The practice has been understood to be a common element in various cultural values that have been implemented in diverse communities. However, its consequences are adverse and have led to a need of introducing new strategies and interventions to curb the problem and reduce the risk of death among the females in the society.

Consequences

There are various consequences of FGM, and the immediate and most risky is that it can result in death. Scientists have proved that FGM causes excessive bleeding and severe pain, infections, difficulty in passing urine and other injuries. The process involved in FGM has resulted to an increased number of deaths since an individual can excessively bleed to death. Over the years, it has been proved that excessive bleeding can lead to neurogenic shock as well as haemorrhagic shock, which is as a result of septicaemia, trauma and pain and overwhelming infection.

Scientists have also proved that the impact of FGM can be a lifetime issue in a woman’s body, and it is stated that “the pain inflicted by FGM does not stop with the initial procedure, but often continues as ongoing torture throughout a woman’s life” (Andro, Emmanuelle and Marie 177). The long-term effects of FGM have been classified by scholars as psychological, sexual and physical. In other cases, women have been ascertained to experience psychological consequences, genital ulcers, and abscesses, infection of the reproductive system and chronic pelvic infections, chronic pain, development of cysts, decreased sexual enjoyment and post-traumatic stress disorders. The risks associated with FGM are severe and the practices should be discouraged in most communities so that the lives of women can be protected.

The fact that certain customs are practiced in the society should not a sufficient reason to allow it to be practiced. In the current generation, it has been ascertained that scientists are trying to analyze the positive and negative impacts of all procedures undertaken in the society. There are some instances where the negative impacts are more compared to the positive impacts, which create adverse impacts to the nation and the lives of individuals. Therefore, regardless of the fact that it might have been a common practice in the past, stern measures should be developed and implemented to ensure that individuals in the society have accepted to stop the act (Qureshi 144).

Intervention

There are diverse ways that intervention measures can be introduced in the society, and this includes the creation of awareness. Medical practitioners, as well as the government administrators and village elders, should ensure that there are improved resources and teaching aids developed to facilitate a clear understanding of the practice. In the study, it is evident that FGM has had adverse impacts on women, which include cases of death. Therefore, individuals from diverse communities should be educated on this impact and also made to understand that FGM is not a practice that should be carried out (Oringanje 65).

Cultural practices can be deeply rooted in the society and this makes it hard to deal with individuals who have accepted it and already putting it into practice. Therefore, statistics and living examples should be used when helping individuals understand the impact of FGM in the society. Girls and women should also be made aware of various problems related to FGM so that they can stand against the practice and also support their siblings whenever they are asked to join others in the practice. The process will be essential in ensuring that there are improved measures to support the girl child and also improve their living conditions in the society (Andro, Emmanuelle and Marie 177). The government administrators should also ensure that they have implemented strict rules to help stop the practice of FGM as the girl child is equally important to the society as the boy child, and their lives should be respected and nurtured regardless of the cultural practices.
