Research Statement

The goal of my research was to examine how people and technology interact nowadays and how it affects people's quality of life as a whole. I came to the conclusion that technology was being used to enhance human intelligence in an endeavor to construct a supermind that would be able to think more quickly and precisely than the normal man. The process involves the existence of a mind that is committed to using all available tools and information to create intricate designs and programs. A program is a set of instructions that are triggered in a device to enable it perform as intended. In my research, I provide evidence revealing that these devices require man for them to function properly. They cannot exist by themselves. In my own perspective, they act like plants in the farms where man has to provide the necessary materials for them to grow. The plants also depend on the natural light to grow. In this case, the source of everything is narrowed down to the creator. The one who created everything but has to intervene for both man and plants to survive. The creator provides rain and light which at long last are enjoyed by man and plants. My research paper further proves that the relationship between human and technology has extended from cultural to social. Technology has become the way of life for man. People have become part of a technology they cannot live without. Additionally, they rely on technology to form social relationships with devices such as the robots. Robots tend to mimic the physical appearance of human beings with a brain installed to function like that of a man.

The main problems outlined by these devices or technology, is the fact that the truth is hidden by the original existence. Human beings are social beings sometimes looking for love and companionship. In the research paper, Theodore who is a robot gets into a romantic relationship with Samantha who is a real human being. Their relationship grows as they start developing emotional feelings towards each other. Unfortunately, Theodore is unable to function when it comes to physical intimacy as this is another higher level that can only be performed by human beings. When this happens, Samantha is left unfulfilled even though in her perception, Theodore is a complete human being and a friend. The truth is hidden from the original in the fact that robots are mere devices that can only perform as human beings to a certain level. In other words, their intelligence is limited. Coming to terms with the truth will allow human beings to take a step backward and rethink on the roles they play with this technology. According to Haraway, females have become cyborgs, “a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction” (149). The cyborg here neither takes the form of a male or female but women have made it a source of their identity. The author believes that women have placed their identity in age, race, gender in an effort to understand themselves better. However, the identity they try to perceive is further sought in other things such as technology which exploits their role as women in society. The technology also raises a lot of questions where science and biology is concerned.

In the same line of thought, an author by the name Fernandez believes that women have become instruments of exploitation. She places her facts on the role played by women in the land where the Mexican government receives revenue to further its developments. The division of labour is done partially for the young and older women. The younger women work in electronic industries while the older and uneducated work in parallel industries (1-18). It therefore means globalization results to growth in the economy of a nation. In addition to that, the work force needed in the market grows to higher levels requiring more labour. Nevertheless, technological advancements cannot be ignored. People in the current world will rely on technology to carry out their activities even though they cannot certainly do away with their old regimes. This explains the exploitation of gender by the Mexican government. From the two authors it is evident that the female gender is being exploited to fit the demands of the current society. It narrows down to the facts that technology is much involved in the exploitation of gender. The society refuses to accept these facts which continue to cause more harm than good.

The importance of the research is to try and identify with the original growth of human beings without the interference of technology. Technology has very much affected the role played by men and women in society. In this case, the role of each gender is violated to extends beyond repair. How do you explain the fantasy in romance built between a human being and a robot? Machines will try and act as human beings but they cannot identify themselves with a certain gender no matter the intelligence placed in them. It therefore follows that we human beings still need each other for social relations, a culture that is unique and unreplaceable. Culture is associated with gender inequality where both men and women are affected. In the role of entrepreneurship, women have been ridiculed as they are perceived as weak objects who cannot perform in the current market. However, this has been proven wrong as women have raised their standards and take up various positions in the market place (Shinna ret al. 465-493). Nevertheless, the exploitation is much vivid in countries Such as Saudi Arabia where women are not allowed to work, vote and move freely in their country. Men on the other hand feel that much concentration is placed on the girl child leaving the boy child to find his place in the society without receiving help from anywhere.

The research above provides the role of technology and how it affects the role placed by gender in societal and cultural matters. In this case. there is a need to come up with goals and objectives to be able to deal with issues and challenges that come with technology. Technology is rampantly growing and there is no way to stopping the fast growth. However, people can decide to embrace it but not allow it to corrode the culture and the social beliefs we hold as human beings. Technology needs to be used in places where the results are positive. It is therefore important for expertise in technology to come up with debate sessions where they can discuss on the fate of the society before releasing their devices. The decisions made will be helpful if values and norms in the society are put into consideration.
