Public health is a government regulatory organization tasked with overseeing the duties and conduct of the public health sector. Their rules that have been put in place by the public health sector have been advantageous to some countries in controlling the health of its population; some of the countries that have benefited from the public health sector's regulation include the United States. Some of the laws developed by the government to monitor the health of the people of the United States include smoking control, workplace improvement, and motor vehicle assembly. Vaccination rates have also been implemented to govern people's health. There is various legislation established by the government to curb consumption of dangerous food by the people. Powers of the public health are enshrined in the constitution of any given country. Public health serves several factors among them is regulating food consumption and encouraging physical activities.
The newest law and regulation by the public health sector is the control of obesity. This is a condition in which your body BMI is higher than 35. Although body mass index is used to estimate the body fats and it does not determine whether you are healthy or not. There is various cause of obesity; eating food with a lot of calories, food with calories are required for the pumping of the heat and digest food. If those calories are not used they are stored as fats; your body will build up in more fats. Continuous consumption of food with more calories leads to adverse effect to the body as the fats cannot be used to perform daily activities and exercises. Anyone can be a victim of obesity. People can regulate their eating habits and the activities they undertake to reduce the chances of being obese. There are various problems related to obesity; heart attacks, stroke, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, reproduction problem, gallstones, certain type of cancer, obesity hypoventilation and metabolic syndrome. There is various treatment mechanism control of diet, use of the drug to cut down on the weight and surgery.
There is legislation put in place to curb the spread of obesity in the country. Over the past years, several initiatives have been put in place to control the spread of obesity this is by improving the nutrition and ensuring that children perform physical exercised while in school, this initiative and regulation were sponsored by the USA, and it has been echoed by most of the countries in the world.
Recent research has shown that obesity has caused severe economic problems to a country this is because the productivity of the country goes down. There are various regulations put in place by the public health sector the first is controlling advertisements; most of the advertising companies have continually been advertising junk food which is not good for consumption, the advertisements have majorly affected children as they will want to eat those foods without the knowledge of the adverse effects of junk foods.
According to Mello et al ,.(2006) Americans believe that the government should be involved to fight obesity particularly by controlling the marketing and the advertising of junk foods. Control of life style has also been an advocate for there are various laws put in place to control obesity through regular physical exercise.
According to Mello et al,.(2006) some companies have been sued for advertising of some certain foods due to their negative effects on the health of the people. Similarly, claims have been treated against soft drinks companies. Strict laws put in place by the government to curb obesity, the court, for example, is charged with the responsibility of prosecuting and pronouncing charges against food processing companies who produce foods that are dangerous and can injure a person's life. The law states that it is the responsibility of a company to check out if the foods they are producing are fit for human consumption.
According to Slightham, C(2016) the government has also put the mechanism to curb companies the produce foods that brings obesity related diseases and problems. Some acts have been put in place to curb these examples are the Food and Drug Act.
In conclusion, the new law and regulation brought up by public health have been beneficial in reducing instances of death. The measures have encouraged people to perform the physical exercise as means of becoming fit through this obesity problem has been controlled to a larger extent.
