Political Socialization

My Political Opinions about Americans

I've had political opinions about Americans since I was a kid. I lean toward liberals who fight for both personal and global liberty. For a long time, I have considered the United States to be a national emblem of democracy. I formed my opinion of the United States during the Gulf War when Americans went to help Kuwait after it was invaded by Iraq under Saddam Hussein's leadership. I saw it as a kind act to assist the world's weak countries in their fight against tyrants. My views were strengthened by the recent war on terror when the U.S. went and fought terrorism sympathizers in the Middle East including Iraq, where Saddam Hussein was ousted.

The Influence of Movies

The real-life events that occurred during the Gulf war and the war on terror were reinforced by the many movies released to retell the stories in a fictitious way. I have always enjoyed watching combat movies and investigative movies that reflect the work of the CIA and U.S. military. Hence, the movies made me love the intentions of the United States to stand as a global leader against global problems such as tyranny, terrorism, and piracy. Hollywood movies have always been useful in narrating the exploits of the United States in a manner newsrooms cannot manage. It is through such films that the real liberalism spirit of Americans is reflected. The Americans love to dream and be given a chance to pursue their dreams without restriction from the authorities or conservative system. That is the kind of America I have always known since I was young.

Supporting Democrats and Promoting Equality

Since the United States is a champion of global democracy, I tend to side with the Democrats who stand for liberalistic ideologies. In my lifetime, I have loved Democratic presidents such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama who have done much to bridge the racial division in the country. That is the only issue that has affected the moral authority of the country to speak about oppressions in other parts of the world. When the fathers of the country stated that all men are equal, they were clear on their stand against racial discrimination. Hence, I have always supported regimes that speak against division within the country by conservatism. There are a few conservative Democrats that still believe in the notion of white supremacy. Their views continue to trigger racial conflict in some parts of the country.

Participating in Political Processes

The love for my homeland makes me participate in political processes such as voting. Since I attained the voting age, I have always been part of the political process of the country. I have even attended a few political rallies that were held in my home area. The participation has made me feel like a patriot ready to defend the ideologies of the country. However, I feel disappointed when leaders take advantage of their position to achieve selfish interests that do not reflect the aspiration of the American citizens. Today, information sharing has significantly improved because of the internet technology. We all get diverse information about the country that can sometimes be false. I have learned to stick with my views about America and hope that we will not digress from the views of the founders. The United States stands for freedom and economic prosperity of individuals and states.
