As a registered nurse, I practice nursing on a daily basis, and I strive hard to provide the greatest care to the patients I serve. Furthermore, as a registered nursing team leader, I assess staffing to ensure that the Behavior health unit is staffed adequately according to patient census and acuity to ensure optimal environment for the patients. I also ensure the nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained so as to offer optimal care to the patients.


Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care


As a RN supervisor, I take pride in promoting great customer service by taking part open communication with both the staff and the patients. The patients' and staff feedback assist greatly in improving the services provided to the clients. When I am on duty, I attend a hospital huddle every morning; other departmental leaders also take part in the meeting. After participating in the hospital huddle, I gather the working staff on the Behavior health unit to inform them of pertinent information and communicate unit goals and priorities for the day. I also listen to my colleagues concerns about the day's activities and different ideas on how the unit objectives can be met.


Initiates/ participates in quality improvement activities that result in approved outcome


I participate in quality improvement at the unit level by auditing at least 10 patient charts a month; which consist of (5 current patient and 5 recently discharged patients). The audits results from evaluation often indicate nurse/doctor errors and missed opportunities. Management can develop an effective action plans from results to ensure continous compliance. The plans should also focus on minimizing errors and promoting positive patient outcomes.


Evaluates practice of self and/or others using professional standards, revellent statues, and regulations. Takes action to improve performance


On an anonymous survey completed by all hospital employees regarding their leadership on their assigned unit, I received 96% satisfaction rate. The staff voted on categories such as professionalism, fairness, open communication, motivation, keeping the team informed and giving recognition, etc..


Based on this feedback cognition, I developed an action plan for myself to improve in areas where I did not perform sufficiently.


Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in area of practice and/or shares that knowledge with workgroup or service.


As a registered nurse, I maintain my cues to ensure my nursing license is current as well as the BLS certification. I have obtained ANCC certification in mental health and also acquired additional training in mental health first Aid to enhance my skills to serve the mental health population better. I complete assignments in health stream as required.


Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance


I attend monthly leadership meetings and various hospital services such as CAUTI prevention and patient safety training. The meetings have enhanced my knowledge in clinical practices. I always encourage my peers to use the safety behavior STAR- stop, think, act and review, also pay attention to details as a tool to prevent safety issues.


Educates colleagues and /or students and serves as preceptor and or/mentor


Currently, serving as a preceptor for the registered nurse residency program. I assist as a mindset instructor teaching effective communication and escalation techniques.


Supports and enhances client self-determination. Serves as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues


As a leader, I serve as a resource by maintaining open communication with my peers. Making myself available and floating to critical areas when needed. I always address conflict professionally with consistency and promptness. When necessary, I enlist the input of the patient/family or staff to solve the problem.


Uses group process to identify, and analyze and resolve care problems


I participate in the interdisciplinary treatment team meeting three times a week to develop, review, and reassess the patient's care plan based on the patient's current medical problem and psychiatric needs.


Uses a body of research to validate and/or change work group practice


I follow the catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention protocol by obtaining U/a with c&s on admission per protocol. Assessing daily to see if the patient still meets criteria for continuous need. Wipe Foley and the perineal area down with theraworx wipes each shift and as needed for bowel movements and document accordingly.


Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action


Complete and review Midas reports promptly, using a positive and confident team approach, checking for compliance, educating and enforcing policies as required to ensure patient and staff safety.


Additional comments about committee involvement, dependability, flexibility, etc. will be helpful in providing an overall perspective of the applicant.
