On Education and Society

A variety of philosophies are being radically incorporated into society. People are able to comprehend and equitably apply the required sociological principles through scientific study of society. This essay will study five articles that present various arguments regarding societal issues.

Discrimination and Desegregation of Educational Institutions

It is forbidden to discriminate against other people on the basis of their race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, health state, or even age, according to the US Constitution. The desegregation of educational institutions is demanded by the article's authors. They argue that children who study in segregated schools end up experiencing unequal opportunities in life as compared to children who did not experience segregation at school. This is evidenced through numerous studies that have been conducted over the years. The main source of this argument id the decision made by the Supreme Court in the Brown case. The authors mainly focused on qualitative analysis of previously conducted investigations. The measures that they used to assess the level of segregation in schools were concentration of students of different races in schools that are segregated for whites and exposure.

From Chaos to Order and Back

California is famous for its higher education system especially in public schools. It has been able to produce a stable and effective higher education system that many believe is as a result of the Master Plan of 1960. In this article, the author lays arguments on the fact that the public does not know what the Master Plan entails and its intended purpose for the present and the future. As a result, she looks into the societal transformations that motivated the change in the education systems during the sixteenth century. The author heavily relies on literature review on classical literature to bring her point home.

The author argues that every product must reproduce the conditions of its production in order to produce. He bases his argument on Marxist theory of social formation by Marx. The writer contends that the conditions of production include the productive forces and the existing relations of production. He relates this argument to modern day accountants and economists who apply the theory of reproduction of conditions of production.

The Forms of Capital

According to Bourdieu, capital is accumulated labor that appropriates social energy. He argues that apart from the common method of capital recognized by the economic theory, there exist several other forms of capital. They include cultural capital, social capital and conversions which are derived from economic capital.
