When asked about my interests or what I do in my spare time

I usually say that I enjoy drawing. As a result, I was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Mexican American Fine Arts because it allowed me to learn something I had never done before. Throughout the course, I've realized that fine arts are an important aspect of American cultural heritage, and they are what make us more individual and accomplished. Notably, one cannot study the arts by intermittent or incidental exposure any more than one can learn science or math (Hollingsworth 43). The fine arts not only offer cultural experiences, but also improve one's imagination. I have come to learn this as well. Culture is a form of art.

How the course has enhanced your understanding of the term culture.

The course has enhanced my understanding of the term culture in many ways. Firstly, the course helped me to realize that culture is a form of art, and therefore it influences art (Ginsburgh and Throsby 89). Any change in culture means a change in art. All through history, works of art have been generated as a replication of the society and culture they were formed. A reflection can be clearly seen in Alex Rubio's artwork on the four horsemen. His work reflects Christian beliefs among the Mexican society: he uses the painting to demonstrate the events that will occur during the apocalypse as documented in the book of Revelations.

Secondly, taking the course made me aware of the fact that culture is a part of art that defines every person in this world. Numerous concepts make up culture; it is a group that shares values, perceptions, objectives and practices that characterize them. Thus, a majority of artists make paintings that reflect their individual values and practices as well as societies they live in. Jason Villegs demonstrates this very well in his art piece. In his painting titled "Sintoma del Olvido," he uses figurative art to portray death, something that is constant in human life and people have no choice but cope with it. Lastly, I learned that culture is a form of expression, and when art is not present, nothing is left but survival. In other words, art provides a form of release, through paint, clay or song. This kind of art is well demonstrated by Levanton's paint "the kidnapping." He creates this paint to reflect express kidnapping that is common in Mexico.

How historical and social contexts have helped to shape human belief systems and values as well as how this is reflected in the art

Human belief systems and values come from various sources. For one, their source can be attributed to a person's background. Every individual is born into a cultural and social setting that comprises of language, family, creed and social standing-this ultimately develops numerous social linkages (Jackson 30). The features of a child's social setting impacts how he or she learns to behave and think, by means of punishment, instruction, role modeling and rewards. The setting in this case encompasses school and home as well as religious agencies. Individuals also get influenced by same patterns i.e. to being raised in a similar culture. Moreover, patterns of behavior induced by culture, like forms of humor, body language and patterns of speech become rooted deeply in the human mind such that they normally operate without the individuals themselves being fully aware of them. This is the reason you find people who venture into the arts have a tendency of creating materials that reflect their origins. This is the case in Cumpleanos de Lala y Tudi, a painting by Carmen Lomas Garza. The art piece displays a conventional party that features a piñata that is filled with candy. The artist utilizes bright colors to demonstrate her memories as a child of her family's Mexican culture, dance, food and religion.

Human belief systems also arise from technology. For a long time, technology has played a main role in human behavior. Technological advances throughout the years all over the world has increasingly resulted in quick and cheap communication and travel, which has in turn resulted the quick spread of ideas and fashions in music, art, and clothing etc (Van 12). Magazines, televisions and books provide information on dressing, raising children and getting married among others. It is important to note that these technological advances promote hopes,, values and priorities in the manner in which they depict people's behavior and their roles in society.

How cultural perspective has influenced your intercultural experiences

My cultural perspective has definitely influenced my intercultural experiences in various ways. For instance, my cultural perspective has helped me learn to be tolerant towards others. I have come to respect other people's beliefs and opinions and respect our differences. I ensure that I treat them with a similar degree of respect as I would like them to treat me. I have come to appreciate my differences from people from other cultures, and I refrain from judging an individual on my first impression; I take my time to know them first. My cultural perspective has also enabled me to embrace and appreciate diversity. Interacting with different people from different cultures all through my life has provided me with the opportunity of learning their beliefs and ways of doing things. In the process, I have learned that the cultural diversity has helped develop the community and the world at large (Deresky and Elizabeth 253).

Conclusion

Overall, art and culture do influence each other. Culture is responsible for shaping the art subject and texture, like religion and paintings. All over the world, individuals utilize art for similar reasons now, and will continue utilizing it for the same reasons. The effect that the molding and reflecting had on arts from past years can be seen today in various pieces of art. If it were not for the mutuality of culture and art, the world would a grown in a totally different manner; moreover, it would have been a very dull place if it did not have these paintings.
