Life on the Line

Introduction

Interviews are conversations in which the interviewer asks the interviewee a series of questions, and the interviewee responds. It may also refer to a meeting in which a news commentator, pollster, or reporter obtains data or facts from a specific individual. In some instances, the interview is used to gather evidence from a particular individual about a particular situation. For example, the interviewer asked two women who worked at the Purdue chicken plant about their experiences. As a result, to analyze the interview data, one must first comprehend the context of the interview and then learn several interviewing skills that will allow one an understanding of the situation.

Interviewing Techniques and Skills

One of the techniques and skill, one will require in interviewing is the understanding of what the topic is all about to be able to compel a solid story and formulate questions that will flow and will not offend the interviewee. The interviewer needs to understand the backbone of the story and where the experience occurred and what were the impacts or consequences of the incidence. For example, the interview that was conducted with the two women (Rita Perry and Emma Pender) who worked for more than 30 years in the chicken processing firm/plant. The facility is located in the North Carolina.

Interview Conversation

The two women shared their stories from the life on the line in an interview conversation by the host Dick Gordon. The interview portrayed a horrific experience that the two women went through that I believe anyone in my position would not be able to handle it. During the face to face conversation when they were asked about their experienced in the processing plant, their responses were touching. They say that they used to face very harsh conditions during their work ad also had physical injuries. Due to this answer, it enables the interview to generate the next questions that will allow the floor of the story where he asked them if they were not well treated, why they still stuck to the job. The two women said that they stayed because the job in their town was very few and they were unpaid. Therefore that job had enough money in regards to the fewer and outstanding jobs within the city.

Reflections on the Interview

During the whole process of the interview, I realized the interviewer was accommodative and gave all the two women a chance to speak their opinion about a particular question asked and express their feelings. It was effective since it allowed the viewers or listeners to understand the context of the story and allowed them to reflect upon them. For example, when I listened to the conversation, I saw that the processing plant did not consider the health of is employees. All it care about was to make profits and revenue. According to my experience, I believe that for a company like the chicken processing plant to succeed and make a lot of profit, it need to motivate is employees and treat them right no matter the condition. One of the motivation factors is better working conditions. It will enable the operator to see that they are looked at, and the will work as if it is their company. Furthermore, benefiting both the workers and the plant. Also, the event also traumatized the even when they were sleep. As one of the women said that she might lie on her bed and dream about her catching chickens.

Conclusion

As I conclude, the conversation displayed several interview techniques such as researching of the entire story before the meeting. It will able one to generate easy questions that will bring about a smooth story that will enable the listeners to understand the theme of the meeting. The conversation also sends a message to the plant and all other companies of the consequences of treating their workers badly. It also shows them that they must consider the health and working condition if their employees because they ae the laborers who make plans succeed. Their stories were very touching, and it impacted my life in many such ways. I also believe the labor union are also working to ensure that the employers are providing a safe working condition for their workers.
