Julian Paul Assange Bio

Julian Paul Assange is an Australian publisher, journalist and Internet activist. He is the founder of WikiLeaks, a whistleblower website that publishes secret information and news leaks with the purpose of creating open governments.

He is also an outspoken critic of censorship and government corruption. He has had several brushes with the law because of the controversial nature of his work.

Assange was born in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, on 3 July 1971. His mother was named Christine. She was born into a family of Aboriginal, French, Irish and Scottish ancestry.

In the 1990s, he became interested in computers and hacked into several systems, including NASA and the Pentagon. He used the hacking alias "Mendax" and became known for his work.

After he dropped out of the University of Melbourne, he worked as a computer programmer and software developer. He also created the WikiLeaks website in 2006.

At age 21, Assange began to release confidential government documents and diplomatic cables through WikiLeaks, which he claimed exposed US malfeasance. He is facing espionage charges in the United States but claims that the charges are fabricated and that his work has been beneficial to the public.

He lives in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, England. He was arrested by British police on 11 April 2019.

In June 2019, a UK court ordered the extradition of Assange to the United States. The order was signed by Home Secretary Priti Patel on June 17 and he could be extradited as early as April 2022.

The prosecutors have argued that Assange violated the Espionage Act by releasing sensitive military and government documents in 2010. He has said that he will not contest the charges.

There is no reason to think that the prosecutors will prove their case against Assange in court, but he should be allowed to defend his actions by appealing the ruling. If the US wins the case, Assange could face up to 175 years in jail.

Assange's legal team has argued that the Espionage Act is unconstitutional because it prevents citizens from exposing their own government's misconduct. Assange's lawyers say that he has a right to freedom of speech and to publish the documents he has published.

It is time to stand up for the freedom of the press. The press is one of the most powerful weapons in the fight for democracy. It can make the difference between war and peace, between economic growth and social breakdown, between corruption and truth.

For this, the media must be free to express its opinion on any topic. It is the only way to hold governments accountable. The media must also be free to investigate corruption and censorship.

The press is the watchdog of the people, and it can only be protected by a strong First Amendment. If this is not protected, journalists will be subjected to draconian laws and persecution. That is the real threat to freedom of the press. The utterly baseless Espionage Act case against Assange is a frontal assault on the first amendment.
