Individuals and Communities of Order and Disorder

Individuals and groups see order and chaos from various viewpoints and dimensions. The question of how the order is created and decided in different cultures and communities reveals information about how small-scale communities function. Every person is primarily a member of one or more societies. As a result, these people are driven by the complexities of their cultures. National concerns such as populism, dominance, opposition, and inter-societal relations affect community conceptions of order.
What one person considers natural may be considered odd by other cultures and individuals. The introduction of the internet has made many communities whose growth was previously inhabited to be able to expand (Benda-Beckmann & Pirie, 2013). The anonymity feature of the digital world has made it possible for socially harmful groups to exist without being directly stigmatized (Thomas, p. 17). The MGTOW community is an online based community cautioning men against romantic relationships with women. The acronym MGTOW stands for men going their own way. It is typically concerned with the wellbeing of men in romantic relationships with ladies. The pseudonymous community practically thrives online since it allows for publicity while maintaining anonymity. The description of the community is discussed in depth including their norms and beliefs in regards to romantic relationships and how the general society considers the community deviant. The analysis of the MGTOW community provides insight on order and disorder in different communities.

Description of the MGTOW Community

The MGTOW community is part of what is considered the Manosphere and it is concerned with the empowerment of the male gender. The community uses the term gynocentric to describe all conditions that are favorable to females at the expense of the male (MGTOW, 2017). The community is particularly opposed to gynocentric and believes that there is societal gynocentric bias against the male gender. It cites the double standards in gender roles and unfairness against men in family courts as the core examples of gynocentric actions. The MGTOW individuals consider the heterosexual relationship as draining to the male sex. According to the members, legal and romantic entanglements to the female gender fail both cost and benefit analysis. Most of the members consider women to be naturally manipulative. Members of the MGTOW community are males who believe in self-ownership. They view themselves as individuals forging their identities hence the term men going their way (Gander, 2016). The members are particularly opposed to feminism. They considered feminism as one of the ideologies that contributed to the continual manipulation of the male gender.

The history of MGTOW as an online community dates back to the term Men Going Their Own Way which existed as early as the 20th century according to their website. The members of the communities relate and draw from the achievements of single men throughout the centuries. They believe that more than 50 percent of men throughout the centuries have never got married but diligently dedicated to more important achievements (MGTOW, 2017). They drawback to early centuries citing on how Jesus was never committed to marriage but contributed immensely to the human being development. They identify with successful single men such as Wilbur Wright and his infamous idea that a woman may limit his ability to fly. They equate their ideology to fire “ MGTOW is not as old as fire but is as old as man’s first discovery of it. If MTGOW is fire, then feminism is gasoline” according to the website. However, another insight on the history of the community indicates that MGTOW was created by Solaris and Ragnar in the early 2000s and has been developing ever since. The pair had advocated for the women and men to adhere to traditional gender roles as the only way to achieve societal harmony.

The MGTOW community is an extreme ideology society that ultimately undermines women. The community considers men to be more intelligent compared to their female counterparts. The group paints a man as a unique being who seeks fulfillment in areas of innovation and science rather than a mere satisfaction in science (Reddit, 2017). The community believes that the media misleads individuals and predicts that males will eventually disregard on the norms perpetuated by culture, the media, and society as a whole.

Analysis

One becomes a member of the MGTOW community by subscribing to their online channel and following the basic rules which advocate against feminism and any conditions that undermine the male gender. One can be banned from the group by mere affiliation and support to the female sex and heterosexual relationship. The MGTOW group is considered deviant in the societal since they advocate for single male life. The male gender has to forego a romantic and legal relationship with women in efforts to avoid manipulation by the female gender. The member considers the aspect of men laboring for their families as unfair.

MGTOW members do not have both short term and long term with the females and may sometimes be forced to address their sexual needs through prostitutes which is not necessarily healthy. The members disregard any efforts directed to the equalization of the female and the male genders. Most of the themes revolve around the empowerment of the male gender and discouraging heterosexual relationships. The members post abusive terms in regards to feminism and the female gender in generally. They are keen to pinpoint the laws that govern sexuality in different countries. The MGTOM being an online site, it has members from various countries and societies that have different rules governing male and female empowerment. The members pinpoint the unfairness of laws that are particularly a concern for the female gender undermining men. They predict to fight to advocate the rights of males and their empowerment in diverse societies.

The issues addressed by MGTOM emphasis on men and masculinity throughout their online platforms including blogs, forums, and websites. They are mainly a concern for male victims of abuse and how the perpetrators are treated less severely as compared to female sexual assault. The community does not allow female members hence giving the members an opening to address the female gender without limitation. Their forums range from work, relationships, sports and philosophy all of them based on stories of female interaction that takes advantage of the male gender (MGTOW, 2017). Their websites including the MGTOW.com are devoted to what they describe as a man’s fight for his sovereignty. Posts on their official pages including Twitter and Reddit page offer a deeper understanding to what the community considers important. Their discussions encompass national and international issues such as cybercrime and being hacked by the government, to social problems such as encouraging the male to divorce their wives to realize their full potential.

The ultimate goal of the community is absolute freedom from societal constraints regarded as the level 4. The community views level 0 as taking the red pill and seeing gender equality as unnecessary. Level two discourages men from pursuing a long-term sexual relationship and rather embrace short-term relationships that can be easily discarded in level two. In level three, the MGTOW is useful to a man seeking to sustain his needs through maximizing his ability to earn money. The MGTOW community is entangled with alt-right and libertarian movements hence their concern for making money and getting financial stability.

The more an individual scrolls through their posts and comments, the darker the aspects they advocate. Some of them consider pop songs as feminist propaganda and offensive to males. Some proudly declare their sexual status as virgins terming themselves more important to pursue relationships. While it is clear the community hates women, homosexuality is not accepted. They consider celibacy as the ultimate solution to the injustices male face in romantic relationships.

Despite some of the noble aspects addressed by the community such as male empowerment and justice for male sexual abuse victims, the community aspect of swearing against the heterosexual relationships and marriage is extreme and unrealistic. While this may seem virtual, the determination of this group is evident from their posts and quotes. Some of these men have sworn on never pursuing physical or emotional romantic relationship with women. They borrow heavily from pop culture to provide insight on their beliefs. They use the infamous film Matrix where the chosen one seeks the bitter truth offered by the red pill rather that the comfort and familiarity of the blue pill (Gander, 2016). The community considers feminists, chivalrous women, and individuals who prefer comfort as the final obstacles to their ideological goals.

Critics of the movement believe that the original founders of the online community were keen to develop an anti-movement in response to the impotence of men’s rights’ activities. Critics believe that the community is now a site for lonely men to vent their frustrations which were not the initial purpose of the movement. The current community is totally against socialism and may portray individuals from oppressive families who are afraid to seek emotional concern due to past experiences. The Community’s fundamental values hold for anti-family which disregards procreation hence the risking the future of humanity. It is also possible the MGTOW members may start advocating for political homosexuality (Forney, 2015). The obvious hatred against women may lead the members to pursue men for sexual release. It is evident most of the members are driven by emotional distress which is not healthy for building an ideology that aims to change the world.

Conclusion

It is apparent individuals and communities have different ideas on what is considered the order in the society. The MGTOW community clearly believes that females are not necessary for life. They disregard heterosexual relationships and encourage celibacy amongst male to avoid the risks and burdens of relationships. The community is considered deviant since it ignores human nature. Their fundamental norm and belief of male self-fulfillment are unrealistic in real life. The first ideology was politically driven but the current aspect is a matter of social interaction in all spheres of life from marriage, to relationships to work environment. The community is shaped by how male views their relationships with the female gender in the society. The movement has taken roots in areas where the female gender are taught to pursue their dreams without being limited to their societies. It is clear that the community, cultural and social norms lead to the development of different communities.
