King addressed thousands of persons in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. “In his speech, he asserted that even though slaves were legally freed, “…one hundred years later, the Negro is still not free.. (King). King campaigned against racism, fear and violence, which prohibited democracy and prosperity for African-Americans to enjoy. He expressed his vision of the desired future, where the Blacks and the Whites will be regarded as equal and have mutual respect to each other as well as equivalent rights. King was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin commenced studying at Yonge Elementary all-black school. In June 1944, Martin joined Morehouse College in Atlanta and graduated with a degree in Sociology. Then, he entered Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania, and later earned his Ph. D. in Theology in Boston University in 1955. In 1948, he was ordained as a Baptist Minister. His notable works include All Labor has Dignity, Black Power and A call to Conscience: The Landmark Speeches.
