The Journal proposes many ways that police and media should work together to deter possible mass shootings.
The journal is well-crafted in that its guidelines address specific habits of police officers and journalists. Among the recommendations are to never publish a shooter's propaganda and to conceal their identities and faces. The concepts discussed here are unique to human, administrative, and personal judgments took by cops and journalists. Since the recommendations are not based on regulations, they are simple to enforce. The Journal however fails to recognize other variables necessary to reduce mass killings including the general public and the legislators. The general public includes the victims and the criminals responsible for the mass killings. The authors should have highlighted recommendations in respect to the general public and how these recommendations can be achieved. This should also recognize the motives and whether mental conditions is a factor to mass killings. The journal would have been complete with an inclusion of how the legislators are failing in the efforts to reduce mass killings and what should be done differently to achieve the desired results.

The Journal focuses on the two most dominant factors in the fight to reduce mass killings; mental illness and the politics around American firearms. The authors understand that America has weak laws regarding firearms and this should not be ignored. The Journal is against the common phrase in firearms politics that "guns don't kill people, people kill people". Despite the fact that mental illness is a factor behind mass killings, the writer refuses to accept that it is always the reason. It is always a shortcut for the investigators to assume that the motive was a psychological problem.
The authors analyze these factors around mass killings and place recommendations around the same. The authors, however, fail to recognize the implementation of recommendations around firearms politics deny some people their rights. The Journal should focus its recommendations in a way that accommodates all players. This may be something like increasing the number of police officers and training them how to handle individuals with firearms. The paper also points out psychological problems as a factor in mass killings and places an emphasis on it being an assumption while it actually is a factor.

The journal narrows down to the effects gun culture, firearms law, and mass killing have had on America while at the same time availing recommendations. The author highlights the history of legislation in gun laws and the effects it has had on the livelihood of Americans. The author also appreciates that America has weak firearms policies which intern has led to an increase in mass killings. The article is dominantly on legislation as without legalization of civilian firearms there would be almost zero mass killings. Any person spotted with a firearm would be either a police officer or a criminal. This would greatly reduce the availability of firearms to mental patients.
Legislation to restrict firearms availability to individual citizens is a good recommendation. I feel if the author had recommended action points that accommodate all legal factors in the fight not only against mass killings, but also against terrorism and other crimes that necessitate the possession of firearms by citizens, this would be a very good article. The law should intensify education to its citizens on how to handle firearms and where and how to store them.
