1) Mobile Phones Overtaking Landlines
Ten years ago, 90% of Americans had both a landline and a cell phone (McCarthy, 2015), yet today, just 50% of them use both at home. Even after decades of landlines serving as a means of long-distance communication, the mobility of cell phones has overtaken their popularity.
2) Impact of Population Expansion on Food Production
The need for innovation in the production of food goods is significantly impacted by population expansion (Guyot-Bender, 2013). Food demand rises along with the desire to purchase more, boosting industry, trade, and production.
3) Influence of Sports Star Sponsorships on Consumer Behavior
The sponsorships of sports stars, such as football players, have influenced what diehard followers purchase. The product will cost more since there will be more demand the more well-known the endorser.
4) Challenges of an Ageing Population
Ageing population is tricky for countries due to the decrease of manpower in the workforce, and increase in subsidies for healthcare/pension payments (United Nations, 2015, pp. 99-100). This global trend weakens economic activity in general. For jobseekers, the longer the time to get a job limits one’s capacity to choose, thus hinders job fit, productivity, and economic motion at personal and organizational levels. On a personal note, the recent decision to purchase a new mobile phone was tempting, but supply of my preferred model was depleted because the demand for it was high. Another observation was the sales of turkey items peaked during the season, then became sale items after Christmas since demand has diminished.
Learning Activity #2 – Ethics and Social Responsibility
Nike’s management must handle ethical responsibility appropriate to the country it operates in due to its obligation to execute management decisions for the welfare and interest of its host communities. It requires managing principles held sacred by their stakeholders. This includes establishing and maintaining commitment to uphold humanistic values such as community development, customer satisfaction, and respect for employees and their cultures.
