Healthcare System in America

The Affordable Care Act, President Obama's proposed healthcare bill, has sparked a never-ending discussion on whether America is increasingly becoming a socialist republic. Some argue that it will usher in socialized medicine, but others argue that it will not. The accompanying paper would assist in examining the current laws and their provisions. There are those who favor the bill and those who condemn it, making it impossible to decide if the United States is progressing toward socialization or not.
Socialism is characterized as various economic and political approaches that argue for collective control of the means of production as well as the distribution of goods. The government is supposed to have control over all things, and the citizens are expected to depend on the authority for the distribution of goods. Capitalism is believed to have power concentrated among the high ranking members and general public suffers. The best interest of the society is where everyone has ownership of everything so that they can benefit from it (United States Political Science Documents, 12). The Affordable Care Act, for instance, is meant to benefit all the Americans despite their economic status. There are some people who believe that the health care system in American has gone worse due to equalization of the services to the United States citizens.

Socialism can be stated as the economic description of the society. Equal distribution is gained through ensuring that the working class gets ownership of their work. The means of production acts as the distinguishing acts of the socialist economies as it is collectively owned by the employees. Socialism doctrine states that each individual should produce to their capacity depending on their needs. Those who are against socialism state that some of the people who work hard will get a loss as their effort will benefit the less fortunate (Rawal 6). There is no incentive to develop the health care system, and the citizens are there to get the best they can but do not contribute to its development.

By the year 2014, the Americans citizens were expected to have health insurance, under the new health care law or they would receive fine charges. A new regulation was made where the private insurance would not deny the citizens to use get insurance cover for reasons such as the previous health conditions and gender. The donut hole which has been existence in Medicare is made away with the new health care laws where Medicare beneficiaries are given a rebate in the year 2010. The donut hole is described as the prescription coverage gap for the Americans who get insured by the Medicare. These individuals are covered till they attain a certain amount of cash and are thus required to pay a total amount of 100 % of the prescriptions they received. According to the new health care law, the full coverage will be closed by the year 2020 (Law, Explanation and Analysis of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:, 9).

There will be another change witnessed in the healthcare system where there will be no more discrimination against the children who had previous health conditions. In the year 2014, the law will be applicable to the United States citizens. With the new bill, the rescissions have been ended where a ban was placed on the insurance companies could not drop since after contracting any illness. The coverage of the youth has been lengthened to the age of 26 years as long as they are under the insurance coverage of their parents. There are lots of limitations set on the private insurance companies since they used to create a division between the wealthy and less fortunate citizens. They are denied the privilege they had on establishing lifetime coverage which ensured that the wealthy people would always receive high-quality care. Through the Affordable Care Act, all citizens will be receiving high-quality care services, whether are they attending the public or the private care.

To ensure that all employees benefit from the health coverage, companies were banned from the restrictive annual limit coverage where only some people would benefit while the low-status employees would suffer. The socialist government must make sure justice and fairness is promoted in the healthcare system. Before the health reforms were done, America could have been considered as a capitalist where those who were wealthy benefited best from the health care system as they had all the finances required to pay for the medical care services they required (Selker and June 23).

In conclusion, the Affordable Care Act has changed the economic system from capitalism to socialism. Fairness and equality are promoted in the healthcare system. Any American can access high quality medical services despite their health status. The average Americans have supported these reforms since it benefits them best. The high ranking Americans are however against the health reforms since they feel that they have to pay for the requirements of the average. Through the Affordable Care Act, all Americans are able to access fair medical services.
