The United States based multinational company, Exxon Mobil, whose headquarters is in Irving Texas operates in the oil and gas industry. As on of the largest integrated refiners and marketers of petroleum product and manufacturer of chemicals, it has invested in inventions to meet the growing needs of the energy sector. Exxon Mobil has evolved from a domestic marketer of petroleum resources in the united States to one of the largest producers and marketers of petroleum and chemical resources. Being in existence for over eleven decades, Exxon has expanded their brands to include Esso, Mobil and Exxon. It deals in the development of products that drive contemporary transportation, lubricate industries, power cities as well as provide petrochemical building blocks that assist in the manufacturing of a thousand consumer goods.

Major Operations of Exxon



Exxon has three major areas of operation which include Upstream, Downstream, and Chemical. Upstream segment deals with crude oil and natural gas. It accounts for the largest volume of revenue for the company. The segment is subject to fluctuations in oil and gas prices which are dependent on the global demand and supply forces. The downstream segment produces petroleum products. It also transports and sells crude oil, natural gas as well as petroleum products. Finally, the chemical segment produces and markets petrochemical products such as polyethylene, polypropylene plastics, aromatics, and olefins.

Exxon Stock Analysis



Exxon is traded on the New York Stock Exchange as XOM. It is also a component of S&P 100, S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company's fiscal year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. For 2016 financial year, the company experienced a decline in its stock price in the first days of the month of January. On January 4, XOM opened at 77.5 and closed at 77.46. On January 20 XOM opened at 75.07 and closed at 73.18 which was the lowest in the year. However, at the beginning of February, the stock price started increasing exponentially. On March 7, XOM opened at 82.31 and closed at 84.46 ("XOM Interactive Stock Chart | Exxon Mobil Corporation Stock - Yahoo Finance"). By July 15, the stock price of Exxon was trading at 95.44 at the opening of business and the close of business, XOM was trading at 95.12. This was the highest stock price during the year and for the days that followed the company experienced a sharp decline until August 1 in which it opened at 88.08 and closed at 85.86. There was also another down surge from September 8 to September 20. The lowest was on September 20, where XOM opened at 83.73 and closed at 82.54. As at 30 December 2016, XOM was trading at 90.03 at the opening of the business and 90.26 at the close of the business ("XOM Interactive Stock Chart | Exxon Mobil Corporation Stock - Yahoo Finance"). It is evident that Exxon stock performance was excellent in which at the begging of the year it was trading at $77 but towards the year end the stock was trading at $90.
