The Bible does not elaborate

The Bible does not go into detail about Elijah's existence until the start of the work of prophecy. His prophecy started in 1st Kings 17:1, where he predicted that there would be a famine in the coming years unless God ordered otherwise. This prophecy further demonstrates that Elijah was acting on God's express guidance. God later told him to travel east, which he did to a valley known as Keith. During the drought season, God manifested himself through him by supplying water to drink and food by Ravens.
As God had said, the earth began to dry after his prophecy. It is these happenings that informed God's instruction to Elijah to go and stay in the land of Zarephath in a territory called Sidon. The instructions of God were that he had already provided a widow there to provide food for him. More specifically, the widow was in a place called Zarephath.

Elijah, the Gileadite from Tish be spent the majority of his time during the reign of Ahab the king of Israel who ruled Israel for over 22 years. It shows that Ahab lived at a time when Samaria was dominated by sin since. Ahab, the son of Omri, was an evil man before the eyes of the Lord. The sinful nature of the time was also influenced by the fact that a temple of Baal was set up together the Asherah Pole put up by the ruling king. In fact, the sins that had persisted during the reign of Jeroboam were seen all through the reign of Ahab.

More specifically, there was Baal worship in Sidon. There was so much reverence to Sidonian gods of Phoenicia. The gods were believed to be territorial in that they were specific to the Sion territory. Therefore unlike Abraham who believed that they could not get protection outside the land that the Lord had promised, Elijah was brought in a land with foreign gods, but still, God had a different message to send.

The study of the Bible reveals that Elijah was an Old Testament prophet. His prophetic eminence had manifested in his reformation in the religion. Also, it is notable that he was among the mostly mentioned prophets of God in the Old Testament. Of importance was his appearance together with Moses during transfiguration, which has emphasized the role of the prophet in the ministry. Originally, the Bible introduces Elijah as a character that is romantic but later adopts a character of a person whose operations is dominated by a crisis.

Elijah has a life that demonstrates the works of God. In doing this, he uses miraculous signs at many events. In other cases, he is a manifestation of the God's works himself. The life of Elijah is majorly mentioned with the lady at Zarephath where Elijah was able to demonstrate the word of God. This was at the Sidonian territory where there was a widow whom he asked for water and further asked for a piece of bread. Despite the lady insisting that she had no food except for a handful of the floor and little oil enough for a single and final meal, Elijah persisted in having the food and told the woman not to be afraid. In fact, he insisted on having the meal prepared for her first with a promise that never would the jug of oil run low. At the end of it all, the jar of flour and oil never went empty. This shows that God can provide the day-to-day needs of the human beings.

Another important work of God visible in the ministry and work of Elijah is the resurrection of a daughter. Once there was a woman whose daughter was sick with severity in the breath. Elijah was confronted for the child's death. Elijah grabbed that chance to have the son handed over to him. He then took the son into his own arms, carried him to his living room. Elijah called the name of the Lord to have mercy on the woman who had been taking care of him. The Lord answered the prayer of Elijah by putting breath to the life of the young boy. In fact, the woman recognized that Elijah was a prophet of God once he made sure that he son was alive again.

From the resurrection ministry, it us evident that Elijah did not sometimes understand the working of God. When he questioned the work of God by asking that he was also bringing death to the woman's son, he was justifying the drought but saw that God was going overboard in bringing death to the son of the woman. Perhaps this is the recognition of the Bible saying that the perfect times were yet to come to ensure prophesy is fulfilled. 1 Corr 13; 9-10

The above discussion explains that Elijah participated much in the ministry of God's work. Several lessons can be learned from the ministry of Elijah in a resurrection and bringing of food during starvation. The lessons are forming part of the discussion of the life of Elijah, his strengths, and weaknesses. They are discussed as follows; The signs of the apostles are usually performed with so much perseverance. Thi shows that to make signs and wonders and deeds that are powerful, a prophet has to persevere. In the instant case, Elijah had to endure the hatred that Queen Jezebel, the wife of Ahab had for him because his preaching, teachings, and prophecy were against the Baalism advocated by the queen.

It is not easy to make a complete prophecy. This is at least for the Old Testament times. Alternatively, it can be a lesson learned that it is not even necessary to make complete prophecies to be considered as one. It is interesting to know that Elijah did not completely understand the situation of the death of the son of the woman. Perhaps this is why he was addressing God through protests and complaints. That notwithstanding, Elijah was still recognized as a prophet by the woman after successfully petitioning God for intervention in the death to breathe life.

It can also be learned that God will fulfill what he has promised. This is what Elijah based his ministry on. Just like Abraham, Elijah believed in the God's message of deliverance. He notes that the God's promise of inheriting Israel was still alive as this was to be achieved through restoration. It is because of this reason that he challenged the people of Baal to pray to their Baal to see if it could deliver them from the crisis that affected them. On his part, he had believed in the existence of God through whose power, fire came down and consumed the meat from the butchered animals.

Fourthly, by faith, Elijah was able to complete his works. By faith, he was able to deliver in a country where Baalism was the order of the day. According to Elijah, it was about looking forward to the city with firm foundations whose architect is God himself. Hebrews 11; 8. It is for this reason that the resurrection faith that he had worked for him since he believed that the dead would rise from the dead. The life of Elijah ended at the time when God took him to heaven through the vessel of fire.

The life of Moses as a prophet is unique owing to the prevailing circumstances at the time of his life and ministry. The life of Moses is illuminated after the focus on the life Joseph. His life works, and the ministry revolves around the Exodus, terminable, giving of the law and the wanderings in the wilderness.

Moses was born in the 1500 BC. He was a chosen leader with the particular requirement for leadership to lead Israel out of slavery and to give laws of God. To put this into perspective, the beginning of Exodus places the Hebrews in the country of Egypt. Hebrews grew in number and placed in the prison. Having multiplied in number, the king of Egypt, New Pharaoh, would later feel threatened by the possibility of a revolt. As a result, the king made an executive order to ensure that male Hebrews are no longer put in prison but instead are put to death and not to be allowed to stay alive. Moses gets into the picture at this particular time when his mother put him in a papyrus over water. In fact, the mother was so keen to ensure that the papyrus was waterproof with the use of asphalt and pitch to save the life of the child.

Moses was floating among the reeds in the vessels in the river bank. It is at this time that he landed in the custody of the princess of Egypt. The daughter of Pharaoh reared him as a royal prince in the palace in readiness of taking power. Moses was learned in the wisdom of all Egyptians which he did making him mighty both in words and actions. Acts 7; 22. It is evident that the life of Moses was strategic as the Lord earlier determined that he be taught by the natural mother at the earlier stages of his life to ensure that he grew firm in the faith of his forefathers. It is only through this way that Moses was able to withstand the foreign powers and influences over his life. Exodus 2; 7

By the time he had completed his studies, Moses had surpassed anybody in the civilization studies. He was a special study as he was being trained to take over a higher office. Therefore he had to be familiar with the courts of Pharaoh and the worship of religions. Apart from the training, Moses also went through the schooling in writing and literary means and ideas. At forty years, he was tasked with overseeing the administration of justice. The turns in his life took place when he killed an Egyptian by beating and eventually burying him in the sand Exodus 2; 12. Because of the fear caused by the action, Moses was forced to flee from Egypt into the desert land where he was a shepherd for Jethro in Midian. At Midian, he agreed with Jethro that in exchange of the tending for his flocks, he would marry his daughter.

At the wilderness, God spoke to Moses through the burning bush. After the talk, he was informed to get back to Egypt so as to rescue the people of Hebrew from slavery. To support his ability to communicate, God sent Aaron together with Moses as spokesmen to persuade the Israelites to walk out of Egypt. But who said this was going to be a walk in the park. Moses had to utilize several plagues to strike the king and the Egyptians so as to soften their hearts to release the Israelites. The first plague was that of blood., then followed the plague of frogs, lice, flies, disease on livestock and boils. But still, the heart of Pharaoh was hard. God made some other plagues through Moses including the plague of hails, locusts and darkness. The heart of Pharaoh grew even harder. The last and the final plague was the death of the firstborns including the firstborn son of King Pharaoh.

Pharaoh was now ready to release the Israelites to go the promised land. However as it would later be revealed, Moses' experience with the Egyptians was far from being over. Pharaoh pursued them until at the edge of the red sea. At this time when most of the Israelites had thought that they were going to die, God used Moses in a mighty way, Moses stretched his hands over the sea and the Lord caused the sea to go back and forth by still winds all night driving the waters so the children of God would be able to go through the dry ground. The finality of the Pharaoh's dominion was the closing of the sea on the armies of Pharaoh.

As the Israelites were moving, God heard Moses' prayers and granted them a glory cloud to ensure that the movement through Mount Sinai was smooth. On the Mountain, the test was persisting, the instabilities under the leadership of Israel was tested with intense thirst, war, and hunger. But God always had a solution for this. For instance, God did a miracle of providing manna which was falling from heaven. The upshot of the preceding, suggests that while the people were being moved away from Egypt, the Israelites had not believed in the power of deliverance from God until at the time of reaching Sinai. However, shortly afterward their trust in the work of God vividly depreciated with movement to Baalism taking root over time. At the time of taking of the new commandments in Mount Sinai, the Israelites had threatened a revolt and with time made the threats real by putting up a calf image and granting it praises and honor amidst ravels since they had lost hope in Moses who took long from moving from the Mountain back to the camp at the foot of the mountain. Moses was not able to control, his tempers and at this time, he was forced to break the two tablets of the sacred Ten Commandments written in God’s name that had been given to him as the commandments which ought to guide the Israelites during their lives.

Moses would be later on pass on at Mount Sinai and buried there thereby missing the Promised Land for which they had set off from the country of Egypt. Another person whose life is worth examining for the purpose of understanding the biblical underpinning his life is David. David Unlike other earlier discussed person of political authority. Excitingly, God used hi to send particular messaged to his people.

The early life of David was dominated with the work as a shepherd to his father's flock. When Samuel thought it necessary to inequity a king after Jesses was asked to line the sons for anointing by Samuel. When Jesses had lined every other son, he was told to bring the last of the sons whom he though not to qualify. It was David, the shepherd. Perhaps his study as a sphered was to earlier equip him with the capacity to shepherd the Israelites who were inconsistent at the time of the faith in the Lord God. 1 Sam 16; 1- 8

Despite his anointment to take the place of Saul. However, the anointed king thought it good to have the same apply only after the death of King Saul. So in te meantime, he allowed himself to be appointed the player of the harp to King Saul. This is a time when Saul was under certain of satanic forces and impure spirits which used to attack his person. At these times, the services of David would be needed to cool his temper. At some time, David came under danger of attacks when the spirits overwhelmed Saul. 1 Sam 16;14

David grew up as a courageous young boy who was able to deal with hard situations. In fact, he was able to suggest to King Paul to be able to fight with Goliath at the time of the war. While most of the people laughed him off for such mild attempts, including his brothers, he insisted on having a war with the then warlord./ King Saul gave in to his demands ad finally let him fight with his royal garments that he removed after trials. He was able to strike Golan in the head with a stone leading to his death. This act made him famous. 18; 6. This coupled with his earlier appointment; David was being ready to take over power from King Saul who had not known signs of leaving the power anytime soon.

David became such a famous man that the existing King at the time became jealous of him. And a result, Saul plotted to kill David several times, but God was able to protect David for such plotted attacks. In fact, the patience and humility of David came into play when he disobeyed the instructions of his handlers and refused to kill King Saul when it was prime to do so at an area between the rocks. The jealousy of Saul was so much that he literary attempted to kill David at the time he was playing the harp. The femininity, however, was neutralized and made known to David owing to the existing and growing friendship with Jonathan 1 sam 18; 1- 16
